Nardelli's Grinder Shoppe
Established in 1922, Nardelli's Grinder Shoppe in Naugatuck serves up authentic Italian grinders, hot or cold. The favorite here is the Italian Combo (capocola, salami and pruzitini ) topped with one of their special marinades. Don't forget to tip your sandwich-makers; you'll be applauded with a boisterous " Grazie! " There are three other shops in the area with two in Waterbury and one in Southbury.
Certainly one of the best delicatessens outside of New York City. The grinders (subs) are pricier than, say, Subway and on par with Quiznos. Considering what you get, though, the price is absolutely justified. The sandwiches are very thick with fresh meats and vegetables. Much of the food is handmade, including the various pastas and salads. Also available are delectable chunks of fried mozzarella (not sticks, mind you) and desserts. Just thinking about a cheesecake burrito gets my mouth watering.
Sorry after all the hype about this place I was very disappointed, their meat ball grinder was one of the worst grinders I have ever had, no flavor to it.. it was blend even with cheese on it, gave it another try with their Italian sandwich and it was average. As far as the price they are the same as any good sub shop. I usually tend to go out of my way for a good food, and this is a place I wont go out of my way for. EPIC FAIL...
I have grown up on the Italian Combo grinder - nothing beats it no matter where I've been (I even have friends overseas who crave them). I live out of state and always get one when I come home or have one delivered when my family visits. I've known the entire Nardelli family my whole life as well and in my opinion they are the nicest and their product is the best (I also still only go to the original location in Naugatuck!!)
a average sandwich thats a bit over priced. i have tried just about everything there and cant say any of their home made foods are anything to boast about , im still wondering why everybody thinks they are so great- there are tons of delis around town that make a much better sandwich but dont advertise!
I think there food is over priced for what you get. I think they try too hard for this area. They should try to be more like the mom and pop deli I recently visited. Ann's Deli in Waterbury offered a friendly atmosphere and great prices! The food was excellent!
Awesome grinders (subs) and wraps. Super friendly staff and good prices. Kind of like a high-end version of Subway. Not many tables to sit at, ambiance is OK, nothing special. Parking is across the street in gravel.
I like this place a lot. The food is good. Everything is homemade I think. Nice portions. Staff is nice. The only downside is it can be a little expensive but definitely worth checking out every once in a while.
