Frank Pepe's the Spot
Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana is one of the oldest and best-known pizzerias in the United States. Known locally as Pepe's, is has its Original Location in the Wooster Square neighborhood of New Haven, CT, as well as stores in Fairfield, Manchester and Danbury CT, the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT, and in Yonkers, NY.
I was looking forward to some pizza-epiphany here, but it was no where to be found. Supreme combo was so greasy and meaty, I lost appetite just looking at it. It was so saturated with oil, you can't possibly hold it in your hand. Summer special white pizza with clam was good with chunky clam meat, but was better at the Bar in downtown.
At The Spot, you can enjoy pepe's pizza without the hassle of the main Pepe's.
I cannot recall having a better white clam pizza anywhere in America that is better! One nitpick- back in June 2004, they served wine in regular glasses.
I am in school in New Haven but from N.Y.C and there are just too many good place in NY I must be spoiled because I had to wait in line for almost an hour with my two girlfriends. I do understand why everyone makes such a big deal about this place. It was good but thats all.
My boyfriend and I take a monthly trip down to New Haven just for Pepe's.. ok and IKEA is good too! Some nights the line is longer than others but it's well worth the wait. The brick oven pizza gives the crust a delicious flavor that you just don't find with pan pizzas. And as for the watery sauce the other guy is talking about.. it's called REAL tomatoes, not the paste from a can. TOO GOOD to pass up. Stop by if you're in the area, you won't be disapointed!!
a joke. they made us wait in a line and then once we got inside there were 5 open tables. No doubt they want to keep up the appearance that what they have is so good people are willing to wait in line for it. Once inside, we placed our order for a cheese pizza and then waiting 50 minutes for it to show up. the waitress came back to our table 3 times to tell us that our order would be right up. I finally had to ask her what she based her information on? I would not go back there on a bet. The place is clean, the pizza is good, the people are nice...but the artificial line and the long wait for pizza made the experience a bitter disappointment. BAR is a better experience.
