Description

Bentara Restaurant was first open in Connecticut in the town of North Haven in April of 1995. In May 1997, the operation was moved to our present location in the historic district of Ninth Square. Bentara Restaurant offers a blend of all different ethnicity & influences from Indian & Chinese cultures as well as Dutch, Portuguese & English to produce a unique mixture of dishes in the Malaysian dining experience.

A nice change of pace from typical Chinese / Japanese / Indian food.Slightly higher priced than other restaurants, but a good value.

The food hear is delicious. They have wonderful flavorful sauces that make your taste buds want to explode. The service is polite and the place was clean. I took my parents here before a show and they were very impressed with my choice.

Not sure why all the rave reviews for this place. Have been twice and the food is average and service not great, especially if they are busy.

Something terrible has happened at this once-great Malaysian pioneer in New Haven. The attention to detail in the food preparation has dropped off completely; flavors are muddy and service is snappish. Unfortunately, Bentara has joined the growing ranks of expensive-yet-mediocre restaurants downtown.

The best Asian [Malaysian] food in New England. Chef and Proprietor "Jeff" Ghazali prepares the tastiest, most authentic Asian cuisine this side of Penang. And one can adjust the spiciness from mild through medium to "regular" [native] and on to hot and "chef hot". The latter is only recommended for those with the strongest tongues and gullets!

Have been to Bentara many times and liked it. Last month was disappointed by food. Fried tofu appetizer was greasy, special bread was not wonderful. Could be an off night.
