I went to Amici s last night with my husband after hearing wondering things about this restaurant from 2 different people.
The Service was great! The Decor was nice/ average and the food fell short on some levels.
The Bread was amazing. Traditional, hard crusted Italian bread serviced with butter (and olive oil on the table). Excellent.
Hot Antipasto for 2: Sadly these beautiful jumbo Shrimp were very overcooked. Boiled and unseasoned serviced without a cocktail sauce. If they weren t overcooked they might have been able to stand alone but not the case. The stuffed mushrooms were stuffed with disappointingly only breadcrumbs; the mushrooms themselves were cooked well but the stuffing lacked. The clam casino where ok and the fried calamari (just the rings which is always nice) were small/ tiny (some fried hot cherry pepper s thrown in) and breaded with some marinara sauce on the side.
The main course: Large portions. Veal Chop Parm - Huge but just ok. Short Ribs - pretty good. The sauce was Excellent. The short rib was serviced over mini penne. Wish it was over polenta instead and should have asked for a substitution but our favorite on the meal.
Dessert: Lemon mousse - excellent. – Note worth mentioning - no prices on dessert menu… Always a scary thought because I’ll seen desserts at other restaurant be as much as the entrees but the Lemon Mousse ended up being $7-8
Drinks: Very good =)
When I was there a couple of years ago the pasta was the usual precooked warmed up in boiling water type of pasta with sauce placed ontop of the pasta. Obviousy there are alot of Italian-Americans that dont know that this isnt the way to serve pasta
Went with aparty of 7, sat in the bar on a busy Saturday night. We had a great time ! The service was outstanding, the food was great and the price was very reasonable.
I would suggest the restaurant to anyone --
Will definitely go back !!
It took us 10mins to get menus. We finally ordered drinks and then 20mins later we still haven't ordered. Being there for 30mins and still didn't order we walked out! Horrible service at this restaurant. First time we went there because we just moved to Shelton. DO NOT RECOMMEND this place and won't be back.
I lived in CT all of my life and finally a great italian restaurant that covers it all; great food, outstanding service, and a fabulous atmosphere. If you want to feel special and catered to, AMICIS is the place to go! It has a elegant dining room and a very classy bar. You will get service by more people than you come with to eat with...thats how special they make you feel. You can choose dishes from veal, chicken, pasta, seafood, or tender steak, and they also have great salads and bread. Price doesn't really matter when I go to Amicis because I know it will always be worth it!
Once i walked in i thought wow it does look fancy, so maybe the food would be good. Me and my three friends were the only ones at the restuaraunt and we were waiting like 10 min. for our menus. When we got our bread, it was hard and since i work at a resturant i know when the bread is frozen and reheated. I ordered the Fried Mozerella which was $6 and it was decent. I also ordered a sprite which came in this tiny little glass and cost $4. So our dinner came out and i ordered Eggplant Parm and it looked at a cow brain and it was so gross. As im chewing it, it was so hard to swallow and my friend had to actually spit it out because it was so gross. The bill came out to $43 for 3 people and i only had about 3 bites of the eggplant. So we jsut took handfulls of mints which made up for the non real italian food.
