my husband and i have been going to this restaurant for the past eight years. after the guilford tavern closed this became our restaurant of choice for anniversaries and birthday dinners. the food is very good and prices are
reasonable. never had a complaint with the service and the owner has always treated us well.we had a 75th birthday party for my mother in law here about two years ago. everything went well and we had virtually no complaints with the party other than the service was a little bit slow for the 50 or so guests. we suspect the restaurant had some staffing shortages that day. anyway we love the stuffed shrimp and prime rib
served there. never really had a dinner that wasnt good or very good. true the clientele is on the older side but that is usually a good sign that means the prices are decent. the fact that this place is packed every weekend really speaks for itself.
Last Saturday, four of us went to Sans-Souci for dinner. I ordered the double pork chops. My wife ordered the single pork chop. One friend ordered the baked scrod and the last ordered the small prime rib. Everything was going well until we got the entrees. My wife's pork chop had peculiar order about it and the taste was awful. The person with the scrod said it tasted and smelled like amonia. The person with the prime rib's potato was black and rotten in the middle. We told the waitress about these terrible, terrible dinners. She said she would take them back and offer to replace them with pasta! She also said she would send the owner over to talk to us. Of course the two people who had their dinner sent back did not want pasta and they opted for no dinner. The Prime Rib customer and I ate about 1/2 of our dinner and wrapped the remainder. We waited for the owner and we order dessert since we really did not eat the entrees. The dessert came and they were good but no owner.
After dinner we paid the check which we were charged over $80.00 for two dinners and desserts I spoke to the matre d and asked where the owner was he said the owner left for the evening. I voiced my displeasure to him about the experinece. He said if we like I could leave a telephone number and perhaps the owner will call me Sunday. I said No Thank You. We were very disappointed with the meal and the attitude of this restaurant. The place is way over priced to recieve poor service and no response is a horrible way of doing business and keeping customers. I DO NOT reccomend this place. It is the worst place I have ever eaten in. The four of will our best to make more patrons aware that Sans-Souci is at best poor. The other reviewers here seem to love the food, I say good for you but do not send anything back or complain about how you are treated. This indeed is sub par.
We go to there every Sat. night for dinner would not think of going any where else. the food is great and the service is excellent. They have a great chef . We have met some very nice people who also go every Sat. night.
They have music on Friday and Sat. nights in the lounge.
I have been here for Valentine's Day, birthdays and anniversaries. I have always enjoyed my meals here, be it lunch or dinner. Can get very busy on weekends. Reservations a must for Holiday dinners. Parking can get crowded as well. Almost had a reception here but picked a place closer to home. Recommend this place to friends.
