Captain Daniel Packer Inne
The DPI was built on the Mystic River over 250 years ago. Square-rigger Captain Daniel Packer completed construction of the building bordering Water Street in 1756. From that time to the late 1900's the property remained in the Packer family and their descendants, The Keelers. The Inne was restored in the 1980's by Richard and Lulu Kiley, and remains in the family today.
I went there with my fiance this weekend for the first time. We didn t have a reservation, and they were booked up. They we re still able to fit us in. The staff was great and the food was even better. We couldn t have asked for more. We will go again, and we recommend it to anyone.
I have been eating at Daniel Packer Inn on and off for over 30 years. In the last month my wife and I have eaten there twice and both times the restaurant screwed up our meals. I ordered tuna (specifically stating that I wanted it seared only). 2 weeks later I go back and order the same item off the menu telling the bartender that they screwed my meal up 2 weeks ago and to specifically tell the cook how I want it(she did, it was the cooks screw up according to her). Also I ordered a bottle of wine that took 20 minutes to arrive. I tried calling the manager Ally to explain what had happened and after about 6 calls(she was never there) and relaying the situation to a manger (I guess) under her she finally called me back. This was a waste of time because after explaing my situation to her she told me that since she was not there(both times happened on a sunday afternoon-a fairly busy time) that there was nothing she could do and she was sorry that it happened. What a joke you are suppose to be a manager and all you can do is say you are sorry. Not good enough. I will not be eating at Daniel Packer Inn any more and neither should you!
My family spent a few days in Mystic in August, 2010, and were fortunate enough to discover the Captain Daniel Packer Inne! Eating there on not one, but two occasions, because it was so good, was one of the most pleasureable parts of our vacation! The food was Awesome! The entire staff (esp. Madaline our waitress on the first night we were there - you have to request her as your server!) were all most friendly and attentive. And the historic New England atmosphere rounded out the experience. My only regret was not having the opportunity to spend a little time in the wonderful pub downstairs. If you're going to spend any time in Mystic, you absolutely should dine at the Captain Daniel Packer Inne! We can't say enough about the place, the food, and the staff!
I went to this restaurant many years ago, and it was great. But I went recently with my boyfriend, and it was awful. The 2 1/2 lb lobsters, weren't that size, and the stuffing was very little. Everything was little. Very disappointed, never will go again. And it wasn't cheap. Wasn't worth the money to go and try.
My wife and I just had dinner there and I think the Inne has changed and not for the better. The entire wait and host staff is new and it appears the cooks are too. The duck used to be cooked on the bone with the crispy skin. Now it
Truly the largest portions of tasty food we had ever had. Could have shared plates if we'd known how much we would each have. Only thing to watch for... the air conditioning - take a jumper as we froze on a warm night in August!
