I just went to Oriental Palace after a 3 year break from Chinese food. And boy did it SUCK! When Jimmy owned the place, the food was great and the place used to be packed for lunch. I'm betting there was a change in ownership. We asked for green tea and they didn't have any. What kind of Chinese restaurant doesn't have green tea? We should have walked out! Unfortunately we didn't. I had teriyaki chicken, it was rubbery and smelled like it was microwaved (that weird odor that chicken has after being nuked). I just ate the rice that came with the meal. It was a terrible lunch, and you would be well served avoiding it. Go to Chinese Kitchen in Groton instead. Damn that was a bad meal. I would give it zero stars if it was an option.

Came to have lunch today and the girl whom we thought owned the place would rather just talk on the phone and seemed to not appreciate our business. Hungry as it was already 2 in the afternoon, we went ahead and ordered, also because we were new to this place and wanted to try the food. I ordered the Chicken Katsu (lunch portion), my husband had the Chicken Terriyaki Box. First off, I was served 2 sets of sliced breaded chicken. The other one was fine while the other one was rock hard because it seemed to have been refried more than once. I even showed the lady who manned the front of the store how different the 2 chicken katsus were, and that I couldn't even bite it, try as I might. My husband's chicken terriyaki was a measly portion, half of one of my chicken katsus. Basically, we weren't happy with the food and the portions. It did not end there, unfortunately, the menus -- both take out and dine-in menus stated that the chicken katsu was 6.99, I was charged 7.99, and the lazy front liner gave us a lame excuse of not having updated your menus. She did not change it back to 6.99. But we are honest and considerate people. We shouldn\t have left ANY TIP, but we still left 4.00. That's more than 20% of our 18.00 bill. Evaluate your restaurant and your staff! Not going back to this place. Will tell friends to stay away too.

2 years later...yuck I believe the owners have changed. The food is not fresh anymore. The prices are still high. The interior is starting to look worn out. It has defintely went down hill. A little pricey...but still worth it: I am from Tn where everything is cheaper so maybe the price is good for Ct but I was shocked. The Sushi was wonderful as was the decoration. My husband ordered General's Tso chicken the portion was very small for $9.00 he did say it was good though. The only problem I had with service was I could not hear/understand our waitress speaking. She was very quiet with a heavy accent. She was attentive until the food came but after that we didnt see her again. Overall not bad. I would go there again for the Sushi it was really good.

I've been ordering for many years...they messed up my order and would not send me a new one....$3 credit for a $10 meal...I don't think so. I had to bring it back myself for them to make me a new one..they just added chicken to what I brought back!! Beware....the service is the worst!!!!!! I would give -5 stars. RUDE !!!!! (i'm pulling all menu's from my hotel)

I am editing my previous review. Sadly, we moved away from the area a couple of years ago and recently were in the area and took the opportunity to eat here. What a disappointment! The hot and sour soup was good, as usual, however, went right through me, the fried rice was sugary (I've never experienced sugary fried rice), the beef lo mein was also sugary, the sushi was good, as usual, and I fed the mu shu to the chickens because by then, I was too afraid to sample anything else. I was in the bathroom for two days after eating here as were my two daughters. This had been my favorite take out place! WHAT HAPPENED?? Needless to say, we won't be back. :(

Always excellent food. Quiet atmosphere, although some may find its location in a strip mall offputting the convenience of the ample parking is ample reward for ovverlooking the exterior. Once inside the decor is low-key and reminds me of places I ate at in Japan. Service is wonderful and the prices are very nice. I love to eat at this place.

The food wasn't hot, and the dumplings in the wonton soup were hard... it seemed like it was all heated up from last night's dinner. All the food had a sugar coating on it, which none of us cared for. The brocolli didn't seemed to be cooked enough. Also, they don't make sweet tea like they do in the South! I was surprised this place had a 5 star rating!!!

Wonderful food! Moving~ Come in while you can!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/12/07
My wife and I love this place, the food is always perfect. Egg Foo Young and Shrimp with Chinese Vegetables in Szechuan sauce are the best I've had. Be sure to try their new dessert, sweet rice with mango. It's phenomenal! The owner (Jimmy) is very attentive to what the customers want. So much so, that I was told last night from Jimmy, that customers have asked over & over for a buffet in the area. Jimmy has sold the business and decided to open up a buffet in Montville on Rte. 32 in about 6-8 months. Local buffet owners in the area do a lousy job, and should be shaking in their boots, as they're about to go under! Oriental Palace blows the competition away!

The food was excellent. Cooked to perfection. The portions were sizable and affordable. A quiet, pleasant atmosphere. Definately worth a visit.

Good but have had better
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/14/07
When Oriental Palace first opened up they were my favorite sushi restaurant in the area. After a while the quality started going down hill, sushi rolls became smaller and the staff was less friendly. Oriental Palace is a great restaurant if you are looking for average sushi but if you are looking for the best of the best try Mahtzu in Norwich. There sushi is out of this world!! I have never seen sushi made like this before and everyone is so nice. Once you try this place you will never go anywhere else
