The "new" Hot Tomatoes is just terrible. I was the last to get the memo that their chef left and opened his own restaurant. The weird thing is that they still have some of the same things on the menu, but they're cooked/taste completely different. Instead of spending tons of money on an unneeded renovation, they should have put more importance on hiring a good head chef to make a fresh new menu rather than bad reproductions of the old dishes.

So my wife and I had a Groupon for this place and we've been meaning to get out there but it's hard with a baby and all... We finally got a sitter yesterday and made time to go up there, double checked their hours on their website (which as of today 6/13/11 are still not updated) and drove 25 min up there just to find them CLOSED in contradiction to their site. So I called today and spoke to the general manager at Hot Tomato's to ask if they'd just extend it a bit to make up for their misleading information and they said they will not honor it past it's expiration date and won't give us anything in lieu of it. i told him "This is a matter of $10. I drove up there based on false info on your website (which he said they're in the process of updating) all the way to Hartford, got a sitter and everything and you're willing to lose a new customer over $10? You already got your portion of my money." He said we've had time to use it and when i said "you're willing to lose a new customer over $10?...etc." he laughed and said "yeah i guess so". SCREW YOU BUDDY. RIDICULOUS! After all this I called Groupon and they gave me a credit back! Groupon WIN. Hot Tomato's FAIL!

Years ago the food used to be good. Now, the food is mediocre at best. I have had pasta there that was inedible. I'm not sure this place does a lot of repeat business, if they do, those people need to expand their horizons. The restaurant is fairly large and part of the downtown bar scene. Maybe it is OK for meeting for after work drinks, but I really wouldn't go out of my way to go here again.

Very marginal food--no taste. Unfriendly bartender.

This New Haven restaurant serves up good food to an eclectic crowd in the heart of the downtown area. People go for fantastic appetizers like the Fried Calamari and Garlic Bread is to die for. The main courses aren't too shabby either and is a prime location if catching a show

For a while I had only been to the bar here (great peartinis!), so I was pleasantly surprised to have a great meal the last time I came too...I loved that they didn't skimp on garlic in my seafood penne! Despite being close to campus, don't expect to be annoyed by rowdy undergrads. Good for dates. Just beware: if you drink "happiness" at the bar, you won't be feeling too happy the next morning!

It's a must that you have their garlic bread. The food has always been good and usually doesn't take too long to be prepared. I recommend making reservations on weekends.

Thin-crusted pizza you don't need to wait hours for. But still not New York pizza.
