I read some bad reviews and don t understand. We were passing through, for one night, on the way to Maine, with our 6-year old granddaughter, for vacation. This place was recommended by the reception clerk at our nearby hotel. When we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly staff. They don t take credit cards, which is fine, as they do have an ATM there, if you need cash. As we sat down, we were asked for what we wanted to drink. My granddaughter asked for chocolate milk. She was chatting with the man behind the counter and he very nicely, sent her a surprise of a small, chocolate milk shake. What a nice thing to do! She had a cheeseburger and I had a cheeseburger with with fried onions. My husband had the fish and chips. The waitress told us that all meats and fish are bought fresh, daily, and not frozen. Since I am used to living with a cook, we can attest to the fact that nothing was frozen, all fresh. All of our dishes were delicious. It s a small place, but we decided, on our return trip, on our on the way home stopover, to eat there again. Is it gourmet? No, it s clean, it s friendly and good, cookin . What else do you need?
The best clam roll ever! We stopped at this restaurant in WL after a day at Six Flags of New England. Sat at the counter and chatted with the cooks. Great personalities, food and atmosphere. Thumbs up for the Pollack too. Wish we had one in Michigan!
VERY upset with this place.we were on our way to the airport and wanted a quick meal.there were only 2 people at the counter, noone else in the restaurant.we waited for 5 minutes and the counter person did not even acknowledge us. so needless to say we got up and left, the person never appologized ,just watched us leave.i understand the concept of being good to the regulars but what about other paying customers?
My wife and I make several pilgrimages a year from the northwest corner for their world famous whole belly clams. If you're nice to the owner (head chef) he just may give you a sample of his freshly made homemade chowder. The prices are reasonable and customer service friendly.
Come hungry and leave happy!
It strikes me as odd that there are so many authorities on restaurant laws posting about this restaurant. I can't help wondering if it's not all the same person who had the payment issues. I honestly didn't pay any attention to how they prepared the food, but it was great. My kids and I stayed across the street on a 3 day jaunt to Six Flags and we ate 3 dinners and a breakfast, loved them all, and had no health issues. As far as the cash only policy, they've started asking for payment when you put the order in, probably due to people like the payment problem person. In addition to the great food and friendly service, the kids LOVED the real juke box with 45's of hits from the 50's. We'll definitely go back.
I love the atmosphere and the story behind the shop. The employees dress the part of the 50's atmosphere and the decor is gorgeous. I think everyone is blowing the cleanliness out of proportion. Only two or three people work behind the counter and those preparing the food are not the same people the sweep or clean the bathrooms. The hamburgers are small, but priced well. The taste is great and everything is supposed to go with the 50's theme. The prices are low for that reason and the sizes are proportionate to that of the 50's. People forget that American portions have grown in size over the years. Consider this nostalgic and delicious trip back into time to be a rude awakening.
I highly recommend the food. Give it a shot, judge for yourself.
First of all the place doesn't accept credit or debit cards, i mean c'mon people get with the times even mcdonalds accepts cards these days. There was however an ATM by the door which the waitress pointed us to...which just happened to be broken. So we then had to leave a license with the waitress because she already put our food order in and drive down the street to an ATM. Then no one was wearing gloves, they were handling everything from wiping the tables to taking orders to handling money to throwing burgers on the grill and NOT ONCE did I see anyone wash their hands. The ice from the soda machine was sitting in a bucket which most likely everyone was dipping their dirty cups in. One of the women was grilling hot dogs and turning them over with her hands...ever heard of utensils such as tongs lady?!?!? I hope this place burns to the ground.
I'm up the street in a hotel and they highly reccomended and they were right! Really nice people, clean place and fresh food! Let me sample their fried clams - and they were great! Will definitely go back for dinner before heading home!
