Jan, the chef/owner is from Trinidad, was raised on the cuisine of India, and worked at a Mexican restaurant in Nevada. The result is Marsala Salsa, a hybrid that offers two international cuisines, both well prepared at reasonable prices. The restaurant, located in a funky storefront in Waterbury's historic downtown, is decorated with a light and culturally ambiguous touch. Service is friendly and informal. Mexican entrees include carne asada and bistec picado, strips of sirloin charbroiled with homemade avocado-lime butter.
What keeps this place afloat? Very blah food....veggies were tasteless, spices were way off what they should (could) have been. I even wrote a note to the restaurant explaining my displeasure with the meal....no response. I'll never go back and what's more, I'll tell my friends to avoid it as well. It's really sad that apparently many people put up with this, given that my experience wasn't unique. Read some of the other reviews......don't waste your money. Open a can of beans at home and throw some chile powder on it. It would taste better.
This is possibly the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at.
I ordered Vindaloo Vegetables, a dish I have prepared at home.
It tasted like it was spiced with mexican chiles not Indian Spices .
The vegetables were washed out as if boiled, a bit colorless too.
The chilipowder was so overdone (too much, too hot, the only flavor) that it burned my throat, as well as my friends. After ten minutes of arm waving, trying to get the waitresses attention, I brought my dish up and said it was too hot to consume., could I get something else. She said no, it says on the menu that it is hot. After repeating that I could not eat it she said I'd have to pay for it because I'd eaten some!
When I said I would not pay for this, she said she'd call the cops...
What a nightmare.
Marsala Salsa, I think one of the greatest mexican, indian, and caribbean resturants i've ever been to. The food was amazing! and the staff was very friendly. The resturant is chief owned and has been open for 13 years and still i'm loving the food!
