I ordered the Reuben.....it was a pile of cabbage, soaked in Russian dressing. No cheese and about 3 slices of fatty corned beef all between two slabs of inch thick bread that fell apart with each bite. There was also some sort of pellet that almost broke my tooth. Worst excuse of a sandwich I have ever had.......even at a tourist trap like Church Street.

Absolutely the BEST sandwich shop in Burlington. I went to UVM but still make regular trips up there just for a Red Onion sandwich! Fresh homemade bread is sliced thick and the sandwiches are loaded. The oversized cookies are amazing, too. There's only one downside-- there's usually a line out the door and there's very limited seating as it's such a small place. Totally worth the wait, though!

When I used to live in Vermont, this was my favorite sandwich shop to go to. Now when I come back to VT to visit I always have to stop by.

I always visit this place when I go to Vt. I take the ferry crossing carrying bag s of goodies to the NY side of Lake Champlain.

I was literally stopped in my tracks walking by this place last weekend by the smells coming from inside! There carmel oatmeal bars were very tasty but their Honey Oat Bread is hands down the best oat bread I have ever had. I bought a loaf to take home and could not stop eating it! I think I am going to take the 5 hour drive back to Burlington just for that bread. Check it out if your in the area, you won't regret it!

You have to try "The Red Onion"

Their signature sandwich is AMAZING! I live almost 3 hours from Burlington, so I can't enjoy this little piece of heaven on a regular basis. I've tried to dublicate it, but alas I have to wait for my next visit to Church St. Taking the ferry? Get a few different sandwiches and swap with friends on the ride across Lake Champlain. See what you like best. And don't forget to grab a few of their chocolate chip cookies as well!

great sandwiches, etc

Great hot sandwiches (I'm partial to the spinach melt, though just about everyone else I know is crazy for the signatue Red Onion Sandwich), though they are a little pricey. Definately on my list of reccomended local treats for Burlington visitors.
