A J's Restaurant & Lounge, White River Junction

When you first go into AJ's it looks like someplace your grandparents would go and more than likely they're probably there. The decor is stuck in the 1960's but the food is pretty good. There is a salad bar that's decent but if you go, you HAVE to try the Osso Bucco. It is the best thing I've had there. The meat just falls off the bone. My husband ended up eating half my meal it was so good. It inspired me to find Osso Bucco recipes to try to replicate it at home. Atmosphere aside, the service was efficient and the food good.

Have been going here for my Anniversery and Birthday's for the last 7 years. Pricy, but well worth it. Homemade breads, great salad bar, best steak around. Comfortable/homey atmosphere, and the waitstaff is always right on top of everything and very friendly.

You can't go wrong here, wood fire heat, terrific atmosphere, staff is very professional and curtousy, prices are not sky high. and the food is excellent. my wife and I go there alot. Try the Prime Rid.

We've been to AJ's many times over the last 4 years. We use to love it, but it has really gone down hill on the last 3 visits(1 year). Tonight was strike 3! The salad bar is still great, the waitstaff is good and friendly..but the food has definitely been scaled down and over priced now. We had Filet Mignon and the Chicken Cordon Bleu. The filet was the smallest, tough tasting meat we've ever encountered (not sure if it was even a filet) my girlfriend ate only a few bites of it and was really disappointed...not worth the money. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was a thin piece of chicken breast, with what appeared to be ham steak on top and Gouda cheese which tasted more like baked Velvetta. By far not worth $50 for both entrees. Understandable about the prices being increased, but the quality of the food shouldn't be compromised. With the amount of staff on hand, it's understandable about the prices, but don't cut back on the quality of the food.

I have been to AJ's many times. Interesting decor (think about Cracker Barrel-type interior... stuff on the walls, etc.) The good: Excellent salad bar, good steak and fried seafood. The bad: NEVER order salmon. I literally gagged as it was cooked on the edges and sushi cold and rubbery in the middle. The incident didn't seem to phase them. Still, that's about four good experiences and one very bad. Hmmmm...
