Red Onion Restaurant, Rangeley

We stopped in about 8:30 on April 18, 2013. We knew it was late and we had spent the day searching to see a moose. The staff were friendly and the owner came to say hi. The food was great and a good value for the price....

A great place to eat with homemade and hand rolled pizzas, with a huge selection of toppings to choose from (they'll put anything they have in the kitchen on)! And not just pizza either, they have a whole menu aside, appetizers, desserts, and a full bar. They even book a room out for parties and receptions, and will accommodate or large family party (we're talking 15+ people). They just redecorated their dining room and it's so brighter and larger now. But, personally, I love sitting out on their deck, they'll even allow my dog to sit out there with me and prepare a meal just for him! It does get pretty busy around six, so I'd suggest going in around 3/4 pm, it's quiet and relaxed around that time, perfect for a late lunch or early dinner. When it's busy the wait can be a little long, and they don't do reservations, so we usually just call our food in ahead and tell them when we'll arrive, and if they don't have room to seat us, we have them box it right up and go picnic at the local park across the street.

Been coming here for 35 years, and now my grand kids are eating here. It's the same great pizza every time. They still make their own dough and roll each and every pizza. The same family still owns it too. We like it there, they remember us, remember what we like to order, make the kids feel special. Don't go to dinner around 6 especially in the summer. that's when all the movie goers stop in. Go in earlier or after 7 if you want to have a relaxing meal. It took us a while to figure that one out! It's a great place to take the kids, it will leave you enough money to go out a second night!

The Pizza here is good. Thin and not too cheesy or saucy. Lots of restaurants have come and gone in Rangeley but the Red Onion is a fixture. Now please redecorate that 70's dining room!

The pizza is pretty OK. Get take out unless you like to sit and wait a long long time.
