We had the most memorable meal of our life at the Rhumb Line. The food was incredible, the service was fantastic, and the ambience in the restaurant was perfect. We are not from Maine but there is no doubt we will have a meal here again the next time we visit.
Go there if you like a snooty experience with over-priced food. Fine dining has never been this obnoxious. I felt the owners were there to fleece the tourists as much as they can. Go to Belfast (7 min. away) for better value.
Charles and Diana Evans, the owner-chefs of this fabulous restaurant, came to Searsport from Martha's Vineyard where among their regular clientele were the Clintons. They have created a culinary oasis off of Route One in Searsport where you feel as if you are dining in a gracious home, attended to by impeccably trained waitpersons who make you feel as if you are the only guests in the house.
The food is superb -- so much so that it is hard to recommend just one item from the menu. Diana's crab cakes are the best I have ever eaten, the escargot presented without a shell to fight, the salads crisp, unusual, and full of the products of Maine. The rack of lamb with a fig infused sauce is incredible and, as with each dish, the sauces and accompaniments serve to enhance, not overpower the dish. The fish is fresh and wonderful from the Mediterranean style haddock to the horseradish encrusted salmon fillet. The meats are tender, perfectly cooked to order, and served immediately so as to be at their height of perfection.
Desserts are too tempting and wonderful to ignore with a chocolate cake that will long last in your memory, but just one of many delicious confections that are created in Rhumb Line's kitchen.
Charles and Diane are master chefs who will give you a reasonably priced, but wonderful meal that will have you returning over and over as we have year after year after year.
