This is an unusual hotel and restaurant ... small, intimate, overlooking a working lobster-boat harbor. It has the feel of an upscale guesthouse ... with some rooms, you go down the hall for the bathroom. So what? Everything is clean, tidy, discreet.
We like the friendly atmosphere, the delicious food in the little restaurant, the chance to just relax.
The St. George area of Maine is fantastic, the East Wind restaurant is decent, and if the hotel wasn't pet friendly, we would have had a wonderful time. There was a lose dog in bad need of a bath running up and down the halls and it barked at us when we left the room. In addition to that, when we went outside, we discovered that we had dog hair all over our clothes that had been lying on the bed. The bedspread was white and so was the hair, so you couldn't see it on the spread itself. The same dog that was loose inside was loose outside and going to the bathroom in the parking lot. If you stay at the East Wind, check the beds for dog hair before lying your clothes on the bed, and watch your step in the parking area!
We absolutely loved our stay at the East Wind Inn, in the summer of 2006! the service was top notch, it was very very clean, the rooms were soo comfortible and cozy! It was definetely worth the time and money! St. George is the lovelist place we've ever been, the local culture is fasinating! there were soo many fun things to do! From going kyaking on St. George River, to watching the lobstermen work on their boats, to eating the delicous food at Cod End, taking a day trip to monhegan, ice cream in Port clyde, and basking in the sun and the cool ocean waves at Drift In beach. We can't wait till our next summer visit to this extremely cute fishing village!
