Cappy's Chowder House
This restaurant prides itself on its famous chowder and provides fun for the entire family in a calming, yet lively atmosphere. There are always balloons, crayons, and games for the kids and the restaurant includes an onsite bakery and a company store where you can purchase purchasing their famous canned clam chowder, as well as other souvenirs and gifts.
Was just there in June 2009. The best Clam Chowder I've had! There were four of us, and we all loved it. My brothe-in-law had the potato skins, and they were great too! Also great free chicken wings if you're there for happy hour. Charming place.
My wife and I had dinner at Cappy's Chowder House recently and were very pleased with our experience there. First of all, it was off-season and on a Thursday night, but the place was full of locals. That is always a good sign. The food was much better than we expected and at a price much below what we had been paying ealier in Boston and Portland. If we make a return visit to Camden, Cappy's will be on our list.
Love going during the off-season; otherwise too crowded; tables are so close together. Went once with a party of 5, and they had one section closed & wouldn't open it for us so we had to go elsewhere. That was weird. Besides that, great food, yummy desserts, pretty good burgers. My fav though is the Lobster Pizza and Ginger Beer!
I loved everything about this place. The food was great, my kids loved it, and if they don't have what you want on the menu, they will do their best to make you what you want. For a casual restaraunt they also have a great wine list.
This is a tourist town and an unassuming place like this doesn't need to serve excellent food to be busy, nor does the service need to be great. Both were outstanding!
We went for brunch; me woman had a great crab-asparagus-brie omelette, and I had a SUBLIME eggs benedict with smoked salmon. Frehs fruit to start, fresh strawberry jam, perfect hollandaise, etc, etc. Quick attentive service. Not at all what you'd expect from a little bar on the water with the obligatory nautical motif!
If you're in Camden at brunch-time on a weekend (11-3, if I recall), you'd be crazy to go anywhere else.
We, as a family really enjoyed Cappy's. It had great Maine decorations and yummy food. The presentation of food for kids was really fun and added to the whole atmosphere. Eat at Cappy's when in Camden. It is also in a great location, you can hear the gulls and smell the salt air while eating.
