Not what it used to be
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/6/07
West Street Cafe used to have the BEST menu special, with spaghetti, lobster, shrimp, etc. and then it cut way back on the lobster. We used to go there several times each time we went to Bar Harbor, but not anymore.

A memorable Fathers Day
By David, 6/24/07
My father passed away earlier this year and instead of mourning his loss we celebrated his life by returning to one of his favorite places on earth, Bar Harbor Maine. His favorite place to eat in Bar Harbor was the West Street Cafe and that is where we chose to dine and toast his memory on Fathers Day 2007. The staff was wonderful and the food was terrific as always. The people that work there always make you feel right at home and the food was cooked to perfection. Although it was a bittersweet occasion we may just celebrate our father's life with a trip to Bar Harbor and the West St. Cafe every Father's Day. Thank you Bar Harbor and a special thanks to the staff at The West St. Cafe for a very memorable experience.

waited and waited and waited
By jo, 6/20/07
We were there on Father's Day at a little after noon. We waited and waited and waited. It's not that there was a long line, there wasn't anyone there. There was one family waiting ahead of us. I went in to see if anyone was working. I saw one waitress and one couple sitting at a table. We waited and waited and left.

A superb lobster lunch!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/06
We were only in Bar Harbor for one day as we were on a cruise aboard the QE2 from England to The USA and Canada. We took a very enjoyable taxi ride around Acadia National Park and we asked Mary, our very friendly and helpful driver, where we should go for a good seafood lunch. She said that if we wanted lobster then the best place to go was The West Street Cafe - and she was right! The food was excellent and the waitresses were really helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they did their best to make sure that we had an enjoyable meal. The food was terrific - really tender lobster followed by the best blueberry pie and ice cream that either of us had ever tasted! When the bill arrived we couldn't believe how reasonable it was considering how much we had enjoyed the meal. If we are ever lucky enough to visit Bar Harbor again we will definitely dine here!

Great mussels!
By Julie, 9/8/06
This was the first restaurant we tried on our recent trip to Bar Harbor. The chowder was delicious and the mussels that come with the down east dinner were fantastic, as well as the garlicy spicy broth that came with them. The stuffed lobster was very good, but the twin lobsters wound up being pretty stingy in the claws (both lobsters!), but tasted good. Will definitely go back.

Great eats in Bar Harbor
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/30/06
Lobster, Lobster, Lobster. We ate it all kinds of ways. Steamed ,sauteed, and scampi over pasta. We've been coming to Bar Harbor for years and until recently never had eaten there. This past trip we ate there 4 out of 6 nights and it was consistent night after night. It was recommended by a local store owner and boy was he right on. Not only was the food very good the staff was very friendly especially the manager David who recognizized us on our third night and bought my wife and I a drink which made us feel very welcome and appreciated. We also tried the scallops, chowder, blueberry pie and clam chowder, all delicious. If you come to Bar Harbor don't miss this place like we did for so many years. You won't be disappointed.

Good Food at a Fair Price
By Carol, 8/28/06
I am a yearly visitor to Bar Harbor and have eaten at the West St. Cafe a few times. Each time I had a good meal. That said --I must state my distain for boiled lobster(that is the way it usually served up in Maine). I had the lobster at the West St. Cafe the first year I visited in 2001 --and it was just o.k. (only my opinion)--others seemed to be ordering it and enjoying it. However, I've had their clam chowder which is delicious. Also, their scallops are wonderful-- sweet and tender in all their buttery glory. The blueberry pie was o.k., too.In all, The West St. Cafe is a nice little place to eat. You can usually get a table without too much waiting --and it is right on the waterfront so you can walk off your dinner down at the shore line. Their prices are in line with other moderate places in town--maybe a little less than some.

Best chowder!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/6/06
West Street Cafe was recommended to us by our hotel staff. The location is near the boat docks, so we went after a boat cruise. The chowder is exceptional! The kids' menu was good, and the lobster and other meals were excellent. Good value and good service! There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with views of the water.

Pretty average
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/23/06
We chose this place our first night here and we give it a mixed review. The salad greens were limp, the bread arrived late and the butter even later, and after the food arrived I had to scrounge two place settings from empty tables. My husband loved his lobster roll and said the clam chowder was out of this world. My pasta dish had nice-sized chunks of lobster but not very many of them($20). The decor is pleasant but spare, and our particular, odd-shaped table was a bit cramped for a family of four. The staff was flummoxed by our request to split the bill onto two credit cards.
