I grew up around the corner from Luiggi's. One of the things I truly enjoyed as a child was walking under the oven blower vents and smelling the wonderful aroma of baking pizza. Luiggi's has been around for as long as I can remember. It was always a treat as a child when my arents would buy me a Luiggi's mushroom pizza and an orange soda. Luiggi's has undergone very few changes over the years -- the dining/serving areas have been reconfigured, new ovens installed. But the brick facade outside looks as it did 35 years ago, including the neon sign over the entrance. The menu is limited -- pizza, pasta and sandwiches -- but very good. They still use the same wonderful, gooey, buttery mozarella on their pizzas and calzones, the kind that stretches out when you pull a slice from the pie. Their italian sandwiches are as good as they get. I love the Fergie (named after a beat cop from years ago who always ordered it), a pair of sandwiches with ham, cheese, tomato, lettuce and onions with mayo on Vienna bread. I've never been fond of their spaghetti sauce (too bland), but the meatballs are great. You can eat in the small dining room, or do take-out. Either way, you can't go wrong.
