Benkay Japanese Restaurant, Portland

I went to Benkay for the first time and I had their Shrimp tempura roll and their spicy scallop roll. They were both very good. The both have just enough spice to them but are not to hot. I will be going back often to try other things on the menu. Until next time...

I was visiting Portland and a friend of mine took me to this wonderful restaurant called Benkay. I usually do not eat sushi but whenever I am in Portland I will make sure I come back to Benkay. I absolutely loved the food. I had no idea that sushi was so delicious.

I love sushi from Benkay. I love the tataki tuna and the new dish 207. I also enjoy the spicy scallop roll. We go a couple times a month and we have never had a bad meal. We really like the waitresses and the sushi chefs, they are all very nice.

I went to BenKay for the first time a few weeks ago and was very pleased!!! The atmosphere is welcoming; the food is fresh and flavorful; the waitstaff is knowledgeable; and their prices are affordable. This is a great place for anyone looking for a satisfying lunch/dinner experience! I'm going again tonight!!!

This place is amazing - I've been to other sushi places in Portland and none of them compare to Benkay - The food is soooo good. I could eat there every day! Def a 5 star review on my part!!

This place has amazing sushi! Big pieces of fish and fresh. I live in Boston and I have yet to find a place that compares to Benkay. Not just sushi too, good Korean and other Japanese cuisine. BEST PLACE TO GET SUSHI IN PORTLAND!!

I have been going to benkay for the last 6 years and have never had a bad experience! Benkay has exceptional waitstaff who know the food they are serving and can make new suggestions based on what your taste is. if you're looking for a way to branch out, their fish of the day specials provide a variety that no other sushi restaurant in portland can match! chef andosan is the master of fusion from his mexican roll to his tuna tataki with olive oil wasabi sauce that is to die for! not in the mood for sushi? benkay offers a slew of options from seafood, shrimp, chicken and vegetable tempura to chicken, steak or salmon teriyaki! they even have udon bowls that are packed with veggies and noodles for those blistery cold maine days! you haven't had a dumpling until you've had the HOMEMADE pork or tofu gyozas at benkay! benkay has a little something to offer any food lover...whether you're in the mood for fresh fish, tempura or a hearty noodle bowl! if you go, definitely try the tai snapper with olive oil wasabi sauce and sea salt!!

We really enjoy our dining experience at Benkay. We have been to all the sushi restaurants in Portland and Benkay is our favorite. The new ownership has greatly improved the dining exoeruince at Benkay. The food is fantastic and the service exceptional. My family really enjoys Benkay.

This restaurant has it all - great food, great staff and a great atmosphere. I would definitely suggest this place to sushi lovers and people who have no experience with sushi alike. Not only do they have amazing and fresh sushi - but they have a great selection from the kitchen as well - chicken and steak teriyaki, tempura - their menu has a wide selection - that will satisfy just about anyone's tastes bud! I rate it a 5 out of 5!

Incredible dining experience, very authentic Japanese environment and service. This place rates up there with the best sushi dives in the US. Excellent place to take a date, or a family member, as a special gift. The seafood is fresh from the pier literally a block away. Nestled in Portland's old port, in close proximity to the best nightlife Maine has to offer, Benkay has it all.
