Founded in 1988, Hugo's restaurant sits at the edge of Portland's historic Old Port district. In its third generation of ownership Hugo's continues to offer refined and delicious cuisine. We source our produce, game, fish and meat locallywe're lucky to work with Maine's best ingredients. With both tasting menus and a la carte options you can join us for an extravagant feast or a couple of courses. Like our pantry, our dining room is dependent on Maine's best: sculptors, painters, carpenters, and iron-workers collaborated to create a space that evokes our location. Wrapped around our open kitchen, a large red birch bar occupies much of the interior. With its exposed brick walls, soft wood tones, and plush leather booths, the dining room's modest luxury sets the stage for an unforgettable meal.
Service most disappointing! We felt that our waiter abandoned us and never apologized for his sub-par service. The most flagrant example was when five of us had to sit and wait because the last member of our party was not served his plate along with ours. After having to flag down our waiter to alert him of this situation, the plate was delivered. Although we were compensated for his meal, the damage was done.
Furthermore, two of our party members had to ask for their glasses of wine which sat at the bar for an unacceptable length of time after being ordered.
Our entire dinner party has frequented fine restaurants all over the country.
While we accept spending a hefty price for miniscule portions, we equally expect that the service should contribute to making the experience noteworthy. Not the case.
World Class!! I do not exaggerate when I say that I have eaten all over the world and this may be the greatest meal I have ever had. We took advantage of one of the multi-course tasting menus with an accompanying wine course. The experience was mesmerizing. Expensive maybe, but entirely worth it.
