This place was voted number one in Saco-Biddeford area. They serve 7 days a week-year round and they have take out. They serve their own seafood specialties from lobster, roast beef, prime rib, their own homemade chowder that is out of this world. If you want to wine and dine without paying high prices this is the place. The food you judge for yourself is SSSOOOOO Good. Their also have lunch baskets. They have steak, chicken fingers, BBQ chicken and more. Don't take my word for it come to Maine and check this wonderful place out..
We have had the great fortune of being able to vacation in Maine for the past 9 summers and will be heading out again this year! We eat at the Captain's Galley every year. We always get fantastic meals. The service is great, the atmosphere is always welcoming. The price is right as well, you can get an awsome upscale meal in a casual restaurant for a very affordable price. We will for sure be stopping again this year!
This place is disgusting. We went there on a Thursday night at 7pm and when we went to order we were told they had a busy night and they were out of Prime Rib. We were told we will have it the next time you come. We then ordered the special 2 for 19.95. We paid for the bill and left, while driving down the road I realized they had charged over $37.00 to much because we were charged for 2 sirloin steak dinners instead of the special so we had to turn around and go back to show them they had over charged us. The manager checked the bill and made a new one, she then had to get the waitress so I could be refunded my money. This took over 10 minutes; this is completely ridiculous for a restaurant.
The next day I decided to eat my left over steak and baked potato. My potato was half rotten so I called the restaurant and spoke the manager and she said well we can not tell what the potato looks like inside but if you come by we can give you another potato.
Believe me this restaurant was not worth the fifty dollars we spent there and the attitude the manager had was insane. She basically said to bad. Next time we will go to Kerryman's Pub because the food is great and the wait staff is excellent.
DO NOT waste your time going to this place you would be better off eating a can of dog food and you would not be offended by the manager or wait staff.
Put simply this place on a scale of 1-10 is a -10.
This site asks for a rating well I had to give it 1 star to be able to post a review but believe me it does not even deserve 1 star.
I come here to spend my summers. recently brought a bunch of freinds here and what a change. The steaks we ordered were under cooked, the pasta was under cooked, the fried fish was full water. figure that one out. we received no attenion from the wait staff or the hostess. All I know is I was completely embarrassed and will never cater to this establishment again. so if you want to impress friends go else where.
A free birthday meal is what brought us to try Captain's Galley years ago when my dad was alive. They always had great haddock and prime rib. So it was in memory of Grampa when my daughter got married last year and chose to celebrate at the Captain's Galley. Needless to say, the stuffed haddock was the chosen best item on the table.
This place is Wonderful !! Loved it sooooo much we went back the second night ! Our waitress Barb knew excatly what we had for drinks the night before, the food was outstanding ! I can not wait to go back.
So you win some and you lose some and sometimes a restaurant can just have a bad day. But this place was just HORRIBLE. My husband and I ate there this past Sunday on our way hom from being up north and figured we would try a new place. I wish I had read reviews before we went.
Ordered a bowl of clam chower, this was not great at all. Flavorless white liquid with potatoes and canned clams.
I ordered a boiled lobster dinner with a side of mashed potatoes with a little gravy and it came with a side salad. The salad was the best part of the meal, and that's not saying much. The lettuce was flimsy with brown spots and the grape tomatoes were on the verge of growing mold. Lobster was a bit overcooked and chewy. The mashed potatoes definately were not fresh and the gravy was disgusting. The gravy was so salty, it tasted like it could be watered down beef boulion paste with a touch of flour and gravy master.
My husband ordered the baked stuffed lobster with the same sides as myself (so you already know they were gross). The stuffing is advertised including pieces of 3 fish, but there were no chunks of seafood in the stuffing. When the waitress next came to the table, he asked her where the seafood was and she said that they grind it into the breadcrumb mixture. If you are ordering stuffiung with seafood, wouldn't you want to see it in chunks, not grinded? Back to the baked lobster part - it was so dry they must have boiled the lobster to fully cooked, and then split it to stuff and bake....oh and did I mention they didn't remove the vein
Living in the area, I have been here at least 9 times and the food as always, always been great. But WOW! I was there 20090704. We were seated. Placed our orders, no problem. We received our cups of soup but I like to have Tabasco sauce with mine, I immediately made my request. I waited and waited. The main course came and that's when we saw our waitress again. She forgot. No problem, it happens. I had order my prime rib medium, always a wonderful choice . . . but not this time. The waitress forgot my steak knife and said she'd be right back. She went straight from my table to the next to take their order. After about 5 minutes or so she left their table and disappeared in to the kitchen. I waited a bit and asked another waitress for a steak knife. I didn't want my prime rib to get even colder. That's when I realized the prime rib came well done and tougher than leather. I stopped and waited for the waitress to show. Another 5 minutes she did and with my steak knife and our check. ??? I told her about my plate and she disappeared again. Now my daughter starts to eat her meal, she had the fried haddock. Right away after her first bite she excused herself to the bathroom. She had started to react to the oil the fish was fried in, she's allergic to shell fish and they must have used the same oil they fry shrimp in. I remember Chef Ramsey yell at one of the chefs on his show for doing that. We were very upset and rushed out. I paid the $105.00 for 3 adults and 1 child ( no alcholic drinks ) with a $5 dollar tip which should have been none. I will never return, very unfortunate.
I was shocked when I read the review on this restaurant. I was shocked because that was totally not the experience my boyfriend and I had when we went there in November. He got the fried shrimp and I got a hamburger. How hard is it to mess either of those up? The shrimp according to him was just totally dry and disgusting. It had no flavor whatsoever. The hamburger that I got I asked for well done, and it was soggy and flavorless. Maybe they figured since they were the only restaurant basically open during off season that they could slack on their food but we would never go there again because of this experience. The only thing that was good about it was the little game on the tables and the fact it was close to Old Orchard Beach.
