My wife and I gave this place a try last year and then again this year(we must have forgot our experience from one year to the next) and we found it too loud and very confusing.
The confusing part was trying to figure out what dirty table to sit as there isn't anyone that takes you to a table. The noise was well, deafening. I know it's a brew pub but the noise made my ears ring. The problem is that they don't have an actual eating area but more like 2 bars with some tables. There are 2 good size rooms all open with nothing blocking out any of the ambient noise.
The service was poor because the wait staff has to split themselves between the 2 different bar areas and they have what looks to be a team approach but they didn't have that figured out because they never knew who was getting what food. The guy that looked like he was managing the place that day was running around to tables with food asking the people if they ordered this and that... awful, just awful.
The beer was great but the food was just all right, not the best but all right.
I don't think we will be trying this place again. Too bad, I am a real beer geek and there ales are really good. Oh well...
Don't Miss the Mediterranean Lamb Burgers...Marinated in fresh mint, garlic and lemon juice, topped with feta cheese!!!
I'm always looking for something different to try when I travel and I've never seen anything like them on any menu.
Everything about Gritty's is wonderful!
They brew their own beer. It's great. They will even let you sample it beforehand to be sure you like it. The food is beyond pub food. They have the normal burgers, etc. but special things like Shephard's Pie, Meatloaf and other hot dishes that make it a great meal. The salads and stews/soups/chilis are great. Great place for the entire family (except Friday nights when it's the bar crowd). You can get quick service on weekdays too and they have take out. I live here and we go there all the time.
I had 3 different kinds of beers. All of them distinct and very good. I ate the grilled tuna with wasabi mayo...and it was amazing. Cooked perfectly...no need to burn the tuna...:) I liked the bar set up, it was quite relaxing...I know where I'll eat next time I am in Freeport!!
