New ownership and staff make this a definite place to go when in Freeport! Don t let the old, negative reviews persuade you, a must try! The lobster roll is amazing and enormous, the lobster stew is simply to die for and the homemade wild Maine blueberry pie is the perfect way to end you meal! As a followup to a previous review, the fish and chips is $12.99, very fresh and one of the best I have ever had! Check out this gem of a place the next time you are town.
I don't mind paying hefty prices for a good meal. But this restaurant charges about $18 for fish and chips that you'd find in a greasy diner. The fries tasted like they were left over from the previous day. The greasy fish taste stayed with me for hours. My spouse had a large salad with chicken. The chicken was very dry and the salad was nothing special. The atmosphere is pleasant. The staff is disorganized. Three different waiters came to our table to ask if our order had been taken yet.
Skip this one.
Found this restaurant next door to L.L. Bean and it exceeded our expectations. Lovely juicey lobster roll for me and wonderfully light and tasty fried haddock for my husband with really nice fries. Atmosphere and service was excellent. Our waitress was wonderful. We will definitely go there again.
Have been to Jameson's 4 times.
#1 about 10 years ago, excellent pub lunch and service.
#2 about 3 years ago, bad dinner (poorly cooked and prepared), bad service, bad atmosphere, overpriced.
#3 this year, hesitated to try it again, but had an excellent pub lunch and service. Hooray, we thought, we can go back but then
#4 this year, returned enthusiastically for another pub lunch --- DREADFUL service. Wait staff seems to have graduated from high school a week ago and immediately started working here! There will be no visit #5 ever. There are a lot of other restaurants in the area that are far better. A mistake in the food or drink can happen, but ignorant, apathetically bad service is unforgiveable.
My husband and I were just there yesterday for lunch. We sat at the bar, and the bartender had the personality of a rock. We both ordered Reubens, and you literally could not chew the meat. It was total fat.
We live in Maine, and frequent Freeport. We will go to the Broad Arrow from now on.
We have been to Jameson Tavern on numerous occassions. I have dined in the dining room but felt like I was in Romper Room. The hostess and servers spent more time giggling and joking about thier private lives than attending to our needs. Our male waiter was abrubt and unfriendly. Service was poor but food was good. The next time we tried the tap room. Now this is Jameson's best kept secret. It offers the same dinner menu in addition to the lunch menu. The server was friendly, but most of all knowledgable and attentive. When she didn't have an answer to my question she made it priority to find someone who did. The atmosphere has improved over the years, very homey with comical signs. Not as formal as the dining room but quality of service much better and kids are welcome too. We now go to the tap room every time we visit Jameson and our drinks are ready for us before we sit down.
