Chinese Restaurants aren't hard to find in Maine. But, for the most part, they are all about the same. Except this one...for a year after moving to Brunswick, I went by the Golden Chopsticks without stopping because I figured it was just another tiny Chinese food place. Big deal. Then, one day I was too tired to drive far and this was only 2 miles from home so I stopped. Boy am I glad I did!
The food here is fresh and piping hot when you get it. The rice is fluffy and well steamed without being over done or dry. The portions are amazing and the prices are extremely reasonable. On top of that, the service is always friendly and prompt.
They make all their own sauces so their food is different from every other corner Chinese restaurant. Their duck sauce and hot mustard are all made from scratch right in the store. They are always fresh, yummy, and in good supply.
The General Tso Chicken at Golden Chopsticks is unmatched anywhere. That is one of my favorite dishes and I've had dozens and dozens of varieties from all over. Nowhere does it compare to Golden Chopsticks. Their chicken is fresh and tender, cooked just right and the sauce is amazing...nice and sweet with just a touch of heat to make it interesting. Yum!!!
This is one of the best kept secrets in Brunswick.
I discovered this place one day when I was looking for something different for lunch near the hospital. This has become our family's favorite chinese restaurant in the area. The food is great, and though the dishes they offer are pretty typical, they taste fresher. The egg rolls are awesome. You can taste real ginger. When at home, I pass closer chinese restaurants to come here. I've never had a bad experience, and the prices are great!
What these guys do, they do really well. It's not that they serve anything too different from the others, they just do it properly. Stuff like the General Tso's is nice and crisp with correctly sized pieces (instead of having big mushy breaded chunks like some places). The broccoli is still flavorful and has a little crispness, where most places overcook it until it's hot and soggy. The egg rolls taste great, the pork fried rice isn't done with too much soy sauce, everything's just good. It's not too sugary and americanized like a lot of maine chinese.
The only thing that keeps it from a perfect score is that the atmosphere isn't great for eating in, it's mostly a take-out place. Also they don't do peking duck, which I love. Otherwise it's the best chinese around.
