Bizarre!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/23/07
I have visited this place today, Friday 23rd of February and it was one of the most bizarre places I have ever been to. Before there were cemetries, the people of Palermo used these catacombes for the deseased. Around the year A.D.1700 there were a lot of people who died of lepra. To see all these skeletons. mostly standing up, dressed in old cothes and ordered by rank, richdom or status, is an absolute bizarre experience. Nevertheless it is a part of the Sicilian history and a must to see when you're here. The baby girl Rosalia Lombardo's face is in a perfect shape after more then 80 years. Entrance is 1 euro 50.
