Cafe Matisse, New Providence

I visited the cafe matisse restaurant on Jan 10, 2009 and the food we ordered was not tasty at all. I have visited italian restaurants like Olive garden, Carabara's, Macaroni Grill, Luciano's of Chicago and each time I ordered something from the menu the food was outstanding, flavorful and delicious. I ordered a grilled octopus salad for my appetiser, a lobster pasta with tomato sauce for my entree and a glass of ginger lemonade. The only thing I enjoyed was the lemonade. The food was very bland..no wow factor at all. I expected to be blown away after reading all of the reviews on this site beforehand. I also tasted the grilled salmon which was more poached than grilled, and the seafood platter and the gnocchi...(sigh)not flavorful at all.. no Olive Garden, no Carabara's and certainly no Luciano's of Chicago. I love flavor and I just think if I am paying top dollar for a meal at a fine restaurant I expect to be thrilled by it. While the service was outstanding the meal was totally disappointing.

The setting was great and the food.............to die for. I just at there last Thursday (9-7-06) and the steak and the desert was well worth the moeny. More of a higher end price range, don't go unless you plan to spend about $40+ a person. All in all a great hole in the wall in down town Nassau!

We got a table at the patio. Very relaxing atmosphere. Excellent service. Live saxophone romantic music. Delicious food. Nice presentation. We will be back for sure.

Everything worked perfectly. All of the staff were helpful and friendly, the food was delicious, the host was warm and welcoming. People at other tables seemed to be enjoying everything as much as I was. I'm looking forward to a return visit.

This place is hidden in a back corner off the main square. It came highly recommended by other Yahoo travelers and with good reason. There was little wrong with the meal. While the appetizers were a bit expensive for the portion size, the entrees were delicious. Serice was good and the menu varied. Seating in the gorgeous courtyard waould have been wonderful, though it was a bit cool on our visit to do so. We recommend a visit and would go back. Smoking at the next table was an issue.

Descent food, but my guest and I both got sick the evening we ate there. This could be a coincidence, but... The atmosphere was great, we ate on the upper patio and the old home was very cool.

there is nothing to dislike and everything to like about this unique, excellent restaurant. Best food in town and best service. Amazing decor! lovely courtyard for romanitc dining. Live music on thursday nights. the host, greg curry is the friendliest host ever and greets you as if it was his own home. beautiful collection of matisse prints. the building is 100 years old and in the heart of downtown nassau. a place not to miss on your next visit to nassau.

A splendid menu of true Italian inventiveness combined with delightfully romantic surroundings for dining under the stars in the Cafe Matisse courtyard, make this a perfectly lovely place to add to any visit to Nassau.

The food was excellent. The menu selections were plentiful and varied. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing. Overall the best place we have eaten on our trip to the Bahamas. Bravo.

I come to Nassau once a year for a month. I have dinner at various restaurant in the island, but Cafe' Matisse is absolutely the best one.
