While it's within a block of Bay Street, this restaurant's side-street location makes for a much calmer atmosphere. Diners can take time to savor juicy cuts of meat, mouthwatering desserts and homemade pastas. The menu features fresh pasta, pizza and seafood. For lusty appetites, the filet mignon is a favorite. The restaurant is housed in a historic Colonial home, on a picturesque downtown lane. Colorful prints by Matisse and his contemporaries decorate the walls. The management requires elegant-casual attire.
we visit nassau 2 or 3 times a year, and cafe matisse is always part of the trip. this has replaced graycliff as our choice for a memorable meal in great surroundings.
dine in the courtyard, enjoy the incomparable ginger lemonade and savor absolutely anything on the menu.
I absolulty love Café Matisse. It is such an elegant place to dine. I have eaten there many times, that is why I do not understand the problem on review number three!?! Maybe YOU were very rude to the owner,Greg and Matisse is a very busy restaurant since it is so popular, and trust me I have waited longer than half an hour to get my food at many other restaurants. It is a sign telling you that the restaurant is very busy or something is wrong in the kitchen etc.. AND I also find it very strange that you are the only one with a terrible review while others, have great reviews about Matisse! EXCELLENT PLACE TO HAVE DINER/ LUNCH!! I reccomend you go there!
I dont know what is going on at Matisse these days but the dinner we had a couple of weeks ago is sadly our last.
After over an hour of waiting and three servings of bread, we ( a taqble of six) saw a couple leave their table- they hadnt eaten; we then realized that not one table in the courtyard had an entree.
We got our dinners after another 1/2 hour wait and although two of the entrees were overcooked/ cold and one was 'missing' we ate guiltily as we were only 1 of 2 tables that had their dinners!
When we went to leave we approached the owner Greg about the situation. His rudeness was so overwhelming it was embarrasing and his comments so loud he attracted the attention of other tables.
Something is not right here.
This is a fine restaurant in Nassau, Bahamas and you should plan on going here one night. There is a varied and eclectic menu, nice surroundings and good service.
One note. The guide books seem to say this is moderate to expensive. We spent $135 (including service charge) for two with one drink each, one from apetizer or soup choices, fish and duck entrees, and a shared desert with two teas. You will probably not want to get the $5 cold soup or more moderately priced pasta dishes to keep your bill into the moderate range, so I would suggest you consider this in the expensive, but worth it, category.
A splendid menu of true Italian inventiveness combined with delightfully romantic surroundings for dining under the stars in the Cafe Matisse courtyard, make this a perfectly lovely place to add to any visit to Nassau.
We were recommended to Cafe Matisse by friends that live on island and we absolutely loved it. The food was fantastic, the lighting and ambiance was perfect for dinner and the service as top notch. Was it pricey? Yes, but we didn't regret it at all. We got the best dinner of our week in Nassau. Their entire menu looked fabulous and I wish that we had been able to go there again.
This restaurant is excellent, excellent, from when your first greeted by Grey Curry the owner and his wonderful and attentive staff. This restaurant is a must if you visit Nassau. I have been to Nassau every year since the 80's and I always eat at this restaurant. For the visitors that states that this restaurant is pricey, have not been to good restaurants, in Nassau this restaurants stands with the best, I have eaten at the Ocean Club restaurant and Caf Matisse stands with the best. The service is impressive and the employees take great care with your dining experience. Everything on the menu is great from the steaks to the Italian dining; the Italian chefs are to be praised for their culinary skills. The deserts are to dye for, this restaurants makes the best Tiramisu I have ever tasted. I was recommended to go to this restaurant by a Bahamian and it was fabulous. If you want a very pleasant dining experience that appeals to your appetite and ambience this is the place. Its a must to have your after drinks and desert in the courtyard, it transports you into another place and time and the open air courtyard with the beautiful Caribbean sky above and the smell of good cigars set the mood. Bravo to Greg and his staff, I had the pleasure of speaking with Greg and his wife, and I adore the artist Matisse so the restaurant was a win, win for me. When dining at this restaurant you can bump into celebrities, while we were dining Kenny G was in the restaurant with us. If destination is Nassau, you have to have dinner once at Caf Matisse.
