Charley Brown's Mexican Restaurant, Khlong Toei Nuae

Why do people out of their league try to assimilate Mexican food? At best the food is sub-mediocre Thai-Mex food!! Just drink some poorly made margaritas and that's it. Food is terrible.

I went by good ol' Charley Brown's last night for a bite... what a transformation! The whole place has been renovated and looks great. I always liked the old Charley Brown's, but it was a bit dark and the seats were uncomfortable. That's not a prblems anymore with deep, red upholstered seats throughout, bold purple walls and Andy Warhol-style Mexicans decorating them. The menu is more or less the same - although they've added some tapas-style bites (as seems to be the fashion these days) and desserts. I didn't try the desserts - I was too full of margaritas and fajitas. I have to say, it was a great improvement on an already good restaurant.

As an American ex-pat who has had plenty of good authentic Mexican food, my wife and I found this place below average on taste. Taco Loco's and Sunrise Tacos deliver better tasting food. We don't mind paying the price for good food but this place doesn't live up to it's above average price tag. The Nacho Supreme was bland only containing nachos, cheese and meat. While the ingredients were fresh and of high quality, the taste was just not there. Usually nachos of this caliber should also have lettuce, fresh tomatoes, onions, and jalapeno peppers! Also, they only gave enough salsa for half the order and then charged us 50 baht (nearly 2 USD) for extra salsa to finish the dish! Even the salsa itself is bland so it wasn't helpful in augmenting the taste anyways. The chips and salsa and hard tacos that we also ordered were ok. Edible, but we won't be returning to this restaurant until improvements are made to the food's taste. Maybe we're just not fans of "Tex-Mex" but more fans of authentic Mexican...

We were two Irish girls just after arriving in Bangkok looking for somewhere decent to eat... well we found more than that! It was easy to find, there was a lot of choice in the menu and the food was delicious. We drank strawberry margaritas... amazing! But be careful... we consumed much more alcohol than we realised... then the air hit us! The highlight of the evening though was Dave, the owner, who sat down with us when our meal was finished and wrote out a list of must-see places in Bangkok and beyond. He was so friendly and helpful. This place is also really good value for money, especially compared to European prices...total bargain!

I was having a craving for tex-mex food and had heard about this place from some colleagues of mine at the school I teach here in Bangkok. So my husband and I go eagerly awaiting a descent Mexican meal in Bangkok. Well not only was the food great, margarita's a smash, but as I am visually perusing the fun decor I was shocked to notice JAYHAWK memorabilia on the walls and being a Jayhawk Alum I new we had made the perfect choice! Jayhawk's in Bangkok I'm thinking to myself? Can't get any better than that!

Very authentic Tex-Mex food served in good sized portions. Reasonably priced and very good quality. Great atmosphere and plenty of Americana on the walls. We will definitely be back...

I've been living in Thailand for almost 3 years, I'd heard about this place but never got around to trying it. I was dragged along to a friend's birthday party on a Tuesday night - which just happened to be half-price margarita and sangria night! We went through several jugs of each - I especially recommend the passionfruit flavor. My friend ordered the food and everything was great. Nachos had a great mixture of flavors. Fajitas were excellent. And there were some chillies with cheese and bacon which were awesome! The wait staff were attentive and professional. The manager checked in with us several times. We were pretty rowdy, but he still gave us a round of tequla shots on the house! It was a great night out - not cheap, but definitely worth it and a must-try in Bangkok.

If you crave Tex/Mexican food, you will want to check this place out. Good food, very nice service. The place is hard to find. It is back on a small side street.

we recently had our monthly lady's night out at charley"s. we ended up dancing on the tables..... which the manager after letting us have some fun ended! good food, BIG margaritas, lots of fun. will be back. Jilly

Definitely one of the best nights i have had out in Bangkok. We went to this joint last week for a quick dinner and stayed for hours! Very relaxed place, great music and most of all food and drinks a hit. Very friendly manager and helpful and smiley staff. Will be sure to be back soon.
