The British came and left. Some fella followed, returned to build a replica of an English train minus the rails right in the middle of town. "All aboard" and you "clamber" into an English establishment, replete with napkins, fork and knife, and prim-and-proper uniformed waitresses ready with a better bit of English butter. "What'll you have, Sir?" You reply with your best cockney "Do ye take the Ringgit, mate?" A positive nod and you order a cuppa English tea (MYR2.50) as you're only to Charing Cross; soup, steak and tea (MYR40+) to Ashford Kent; and a glass of wine (MYR12.90) Branch Bandar Baru Seberang Jaya
This is a restaurant not worth going back for its steak. We ordered a medium well ribeye steak RM57 and a medium rare long cut ribeye steak RM77 (I was told this is not in the menu but their most tender cut). We thought to splurge on the best possible steak in the house.
The RM77 steak came out looking the same as their ordinary ribeye steak except in a longer plate and 1 additional tomato. It didn't taste any better than the cheaper steak and in fact it is tougher and both were thin steak marinaded with some salt or something, very salty indeed. The vege sides were overboiled and possibly left overnight because they were a bit chewy on the outside and mushy on the inside. The worst thing was the steak that was supposed to be cooked medium well turn out medium rare and the opposite happen to the other steak. My wife who is pregnant could not consume the medium rare steak with blood oozing on the plate.
Because of my pregnant wife I specifically told the wait person to make sure both steaks were cooked as I specified, not once but twice and have her repeat my order to me. Yet she blamed the kitchen for the mistake when I told her and later stayed away from waitering my table and have another person come for my service and pretend nothing have happened. No apology or steps taken to rectify the problem. The food and service has left me and my wife with a sour experience and felt the total bill of $160 (with an orange juice) went down the drain. At least the orange juice tasted ok however it is not fresh, but from container.
If you are a back packer, please do not enter. However if you are a reasonably well off Euoropian retiree, this place could be quite nostalgic for you, especially British. From the locals point of view, minus the ambiance, the place is quite expensive.
