Description

Founded in 1903, this majestic tearoom is definitely worth a visit, maybe two in fact. Try the Chocolat African, the piece de resistance of the hot chocolate menu. Angelina is also known for its other specialty the Mont Blanc - a muffin-like concoction made up of sugar, milk, and butter and chestnut paste. They also serve salads, sandwiches, and quiche. Word has it that you get better service around teatime than in the morning, when hordes of tourists descend on the place.

African Hot Chocolate
By ,
We didn't wait much to get seated at Angelina. We found the whole experience to be quite good! I had to order the hot African chocolate and found it incredibly sweet and rather thick, and I am a chocolate lover, not a huge one, but I do like my chocolate! After 3 sips of it I was done with it....It was as if they had melted one of those big chucks of chocolate from the chocolatiers and poured the whole content into the little kettle....After I was done with it I was very full; I felt I had eaten a huge sandwhich.... i would strongly suggest the order of Hot African Chocolate is shared by two people; as I said, it could feel quite sweet after the 1st 1/2 cup!(the waitress brings a little kettle which contains two full servings of it). It would also be more economical since the order of this famous African hot chocolate is over 6 euros!

Great Food Poor Service
By ,
We had lunch and desert with African Chocolate. The restaurant was not full. Overall the food was very good, especially the house special African Hot Chocolate. However, I would not order the salads. Our order of salmon salad took 3 attempts to have the correct salad served and comprised 1/2 and egg and 1/2 an artichoke. Not value for money. Service was the worst I've experienced in many years for a restaurant of this standard. Aside from 3 attempts to get the main salad order correct it also took 2 hours to get served and gentleman walked out after being seated and not being served for almost 10 minutes. It took us almost 20 minutes to have our desert and coffee order taken. Language is not an issue as staff were more than able to speak English, issue was staff were more concerned with watching the clock and talking between themselves or their friends. The manager was a little surprised when I paid the bill and he asked me if I enjoyed the meal and I pointed out the failures of the service. Not quite Faulty Towers, but close.

Angelina's Best Hot Chocolat
By ,
My daughter and I visited Angelinas' in 2002. I have been trying since then to get a recipe to make the BEST HOT CHOCOLAT ever!! It will be six years in November and I have not had another hot chocolate like this anywhere else in the world. And I am well traveled! Please can someone get me the recipe to make this delicious beverage? If I get the chance to go back to Paris, It will be to Angelinas' first. Thanks for a memorable lunch and Hot Chocolat. Gypsy

Loved the hot chocolate and the apple tart. Service was a little slow but it was very crowded.Everyone was very kind and helpful in making choices. We would definitely go back again.

Not worth the wait
By ,
I have been to Angelina and was quite disapointed with the overall quality of the place. We first had to wait for a while under the rain and in the cold, but sometimes it is worth it, especially for an establisment with a good reputation. However, the staff was not very friendly, the pastries we selected would have been cheaper to get and as good from your local supermarket. I think that one as to be careful when in Paris, and not go to places just because they are in your guide book... Go to "La Coupole" instead!

Hot chocolate to die for
By ,
We never miss going to Angelina when we are in Paris. The decor is exquisite and the food & pastries are good, but, the hot chocolate is the "nectar of the gods". Don't miss this orgasmic experience if you are a chocolate lover. Sharon

It's the Hot Chocolate!
By ,
After pounding through the Louvre for a few hours, 8 of us (4 adults, 4 kids) had hot chocolate and pastries here in this very beautiful tea room. The hot chocolate is as thick as syrup, sweet, but not too sweet, the very essence of chocolate. You add milk or whipped cream(!) to taste. Pastries were good, but the hot chocolate is the reason to go. Everyone will have an opinion. For kids, it's maybe too far from the US style. I had about 6 cups!!! Expensive, but go, have your very own pot and relax....

Hot chocolate lava
By ,
Angelina is THE place to have your hot chocolate in Paris. Yes, it's very hyped up, but I still think it's worth it. The interior is a bit run down, and sometimes the waitstaff doesn't clean up so well, and service is...well, let's just say that they are a bit too busy to pay attention to you. But I ignore all this because you are served hot chocolate with the consistency of hot molten lava - and that's before you add any creme on top. It is simply killer. If you stop by for a break in the afternoon, be sure you have a late reservation for your dinner, because you will need time to digest the lava in your tummy. Highly recommended for anyone who has not tried it.
