Bistrot Du 7Eme (Le), Paris

This is an attractive restaurant and for not much more money than the overlit, boring menued and poor ingredient brasseries on this street we thought that it was pretty good. Had fish with a sauce [which can cover up anything but it tasted good] and a coupe type of dessert-a cheap offering on the prix fixe dinner. All was well until someone lit up a horrible cigar out on the terrace. The vile odor and smoke came right into our table. I have two lung diseases due to parental smoking as a baby and child and had to get out of that place fast. Went back the following night, early, but had not reserved as had no cell phone. The owner'manager wanted to seat us at the same table, even after I explained the situation. We had not called first as it was so early. He said that all the tables in back were reserved. Everyone must know that that is the killer table! We had hoped to have dinner there a few more nights but his lack of understanding turned me off so that we left and never returned. Smoking is worse that ever in Paris because they smoke on the terraces [no aperitif for us!] and in groups on the street and while walking alone on the sidewalks, ruining for those of us who care about our health.

It's just how my wife and I refer to it for it's become so familiar. It's safe to say we eat the majority of our meals there when we're in Paris. We make reservations before we leave New York and we're always treated like old friends when we arrive. We appreciate good French cuisine (no shortage in NYC) and the 7eme never disappoints. Have at least one meal there while you're in Paris. I recommend the foie gras as an appetizer and the whole pear poached in Porto for dessert, though the creme brulee is outstanding as well.

The setting was so "French" but it had no feel of a tourist spot; most of the customers were locals. We did not have reservations but got a table by the front windows because we arrived just after the dinner time opening. We saw dozens of people try to walk in without reservations, but were rejected (I could tell they were Americans, like us, because they were wearing jeans and athletic shoes). I had the duck breast, which was wonderful, and my daughter had the fish in white wine sauce. My black chocolate mousse was the most fantastic thing I had ever tasted. We loved the place!

As an International Flight Attendant flying Paris CDG flights, during my layovers, I ALWAYS book a table at this exquisite Bistrot in Paris! The location is convenient to the Metro (Metro Stop: La Tour Maubourg) and not far from the Effel Tower and the Seine. Le Bistrot du 7eme has it ALL - an excellent decor and warm, inviting ambiance, an outstanding wait staff always happy to serve you, a lunch/dinner menu in both French and English and consistantly GREAT tasting food. With an pre-fixed menu that lists a wide variety of appetitizer, entree and dessert choices that would satisfy anyone's taste buds at every level, this place will make you glad you made the journey. All this, not to mention what an excellent value you'll get for your money. This restuarant should be a 'must eat here' on anyone's list of places to enjoy an excellent meal while in Paris but be sure to call ahead and book a table - this place enjoys a packed house on every night, week days and weekends alike!
