This dining room is located in the Gare de Lyon Station and was built simultaneously with the Grand Palais, Pont Alexandre III and Petit Palais for the World Exhibtion of 1900. This dining room is perfect if you are just about to catch a train or, if you've just had a long journey. The service is fast, attentive and food is prepared in French Escoffier style. Must-haves include, Escargots in Chablis sauce, Loin of Lamb Provençal and Veal Kidneys in Mustard. In addition, the Big Ben Bar serves drinks in a jiffy.
This is my favorite restaurant in Paris and anywhere else. The ambience is beautiful. The food, service and presentation is outstanding. A great place for a romantic evening. The roast leg of lamb and baba rum
desert are delightful. This is the one place in Paris that
we always treat ourselves to.
Our dining experience at Le Train Bleu was as to be expected as far as food, ambiance, wine, etc.all quite good. What was special about this evening was the service and hospitality extended by the staff. Friendly, fun, efficient.
Most importantly, we sat next to a lovely French couple dining with their mother. The wife spoke English and helped us with determining the proper tip and even shared their wine with us. So much for our preconceived notions about the French.
My family didn't tell me I'd celebrate my 70th birthday in a railway station" But le train bleu was tremendous. The ambiance was stunning, the decor and style was magnificent, and the staff looked after us from the moment we arrived. Our French was poor, but the staff indulged us and made us feel very special. The wine list was comprehensive and complemented the meal in a special way. It was a first-class experience and although I would like to go back, perhaps the memory of this one, special occasion should be kept as a one-off. But then again, as the French say, a bientot!
