Alonzo's Oyster Bar
Prepare your self for some mouth-watering oysters. A part of the Southernmost Restaurant Group, this place offers an exciting mix of sea-food, from shrimps to clams and fish. Try the Clams Steamed in Garlic Sherry Sauce or the Andouille Sausage Clams Casino. But their specialty has always been oysters! Try the Spinach Parmesan Oysters or the Key Lime Garlic Oysters. You can enjoy a cigar post-dinner in cozy leather chairs at the Berlin Bar.
I do wish I had tried the buffalo shrimp. Everyone else seems to rave about those. I did try two cooked oyster appetizers, the names of which I can't remember, and they were delicious. And I tried them at happy hour when they were half price, a wonderful value. Conch chowder was pretty good but not great. You can do a better elsewhere in town. The conch fritters would be considered excellent hushpuppies if they were served in a catfish restaurant around Lake Okeechobie but if they contained any conch, I couldn't detect it.
This place is just plain awsome. It sits on a dock and you can watch the fishing boats come in and out, all in the comofort of AC!
I don't like seafood. But another person in my party ordered the Buffalo Shrimp appetizer. I never saw such big shrimp and it was white and juicy looking. The thing I enjoyed was the Ranch/blue cheese like dip that goes with it! I got some more from the waitress to put on my hamburger and fries (which were excellent).
I've talked to people about this place, and everyone seems to know it.
Even non-seafood eaters will be happy!
So, everyone must try the buffalo shrimp with a blue cheese dressing for an appetizer. We will definatly go back to get that again and again and my mouth just can't wait for it! The dressing is almost like a blue cheese/ranch mix and is definatly unique and so worth trying. We had a great experience, great food, and great service. Also on a pier so you get a nice view of some sailboats in the bay.
