Not impressed... I have lived in Dover for 5 or 6 years and had never heard anything, positive or negative, about Papa Jays. The other night, we decided to try one of their loaded pizzas. When I arrived to pick it up, I was greeted by a cold, dark seating area with 2 small tables and a towering stockpile of beer and pantry items. To top it off, the chair I chose to wait in was broken. Clearly the operation is catered to delivery.
The staff was friendly enough, but their crude language behind the scenes was unaffected by my presence. As I waited, I noticed 2 different employees each pick up a slice to eat, take a bite, and then place their slices in the oven to reheat them. The heat of the oven will clearly kill their germs, but it still put me off.
The pizza itself was also lacking. The onions and peppers tasted as though they were softened in a microwave. The smoke of the sausage overpowered the whole pie, and didn't taste particularly Italian. To top it off, I got the faint impression that their ground beef was a day or two too old.
All things considered, I just don't see a reason to ever go back.
