If you would like mediocre food and HORRIBLE service, this should be your first stop! Reservations for party of 9 on a Friday night. 3 requests to get chips from our waitress and finally had to flag down a water boy. 30 minutes after ordering apps got soggy lobsters quesidillas. Ordered dinner at 810 - still no meals at 915. Scott, the manager was flagged down twice and told us 5 more minutes twice. We got up and left at 915 without meals. When I contacted manger later that evening to complain, he told me the ticket had only been 46 minutes and we should have paid for the apps before leaving. We had been to this restaurant on three previous occasions and it is DEFINITELY sliding downhill in quality and service. With so many other great choices in Portsmouth, this is a place to avoid.

Yuck. Watery salsa. Raw potatoes in chowder. Burnt lobster quesedilla, mushy tortilla pizza and the calamari tasted like it had been cooked in oil that was way too old. Maybe it was a bad night, but we aren't going back to see.

I have taken several co-workers and clients to the BM recently for business lunches, and can't believe I let this one slip off my radar for so long (blaming it on all the local construction). The Jerk Burger is tasty and the Bermuda Triangle Beef Patties are a group favorite. Don't be crazy. Go there. Go there to eat NOW.

Food is good, not great. The grilled seafood with choice of sauce is always a good way to go. Avoid the queso dip, it's super oily.

Love the Blue Mermaid. The food is excellent. The atmosphere is decent. The margaritas are great!

Every time I have been to the Blue Mermaid the food has been excellent. Cooked to perfection, very tasty, and very creative. I don't know what problems other reviewers have had, I can't even imagine. And if you want to try them out for a bargain, but the Entertainment Book and get a BOGO free coupon. And definitely try a dessert! The tropical tiramisu is wonderful!

We gave this restaurant a shot despite its reviews, we believe any great restaurant can have a bad day and shouldn't be judged on one experience. We made the trek to Portsmouth without disappointment. The food, drink and service were great. I had the short ribs, the best thing I think I have ever put in my mouth. My wife had the plaintain encrusted grouper, which was also very good. The beer selection was one of the best I have seen around, filled with local and microbrewed beers. For dessert we shared the layers of love, a layered mousse cake thing, the second best thing I ever put in my mouth. While dining we noticed the staff joking around but also helping each other with their tables. You can tell that they enjoy working here which showed in our service. Our waitress was very friendly and outgoing not the typical robot service you often run into while dining out. Overall a great experience, give them a shot.

By far one of the worst places I have been in a very long time. The food was awful and the service was worse than the food. Four of us went on a Saturday for lunch...and it was not busy. I mean there were 6 tables besides our table. There were 2 waitstaff and we still had to wait for a very long time for everything. I know Rachael Ray really liked this place...but I am guessing she must have had a few cocktails before saying that. Would not recommend to my worst enemy!!

Look, this resturaunt is not good. At all. Yes, I understand that Rachael Ray visited it, and it did make it into a Frommer's guide, but I stand firm in my opinion. I believe it would be a great place to meet and drink with friends however, the food is terrible. The prices won't break your wallet. The food will leave you wishing you had gone to that sushi resturaunt down the street though.
