I happened to visit the Friendly Toast while visiting Portsmouth and will never ever go back to that establishment as long as it is open. The service is absolutely terrible, our server visited our table once to get our orders, then promptly forgot about the table for 45 minutes before I had to flag them down and ask where the meal was. Upon asking why other tables that sat down after us had their meals and our table did not, I was promptly called several vulgar names and told to wait a bit more by our server.
The only reason you should go to this establishment is to pee on it. Even then the employers and employees might enjoy that as they seem quite content to be disgustingly dirty and hungover. While I can appreciate a nostalgic feel and actually did enjoy the eclectic day cor of the inside - the service and lack of any management whatsoever to control the horrific service staff makes this breakfast place an absolute zero.
Do yourself and favor and go some where else - do not visit this place.
The service here ALWAYS SUCKS. And it's obvious that they just don't care. It's upsetting, because it has so much potential. Most of the food is very good, but it's really not worth the price they charge. Last time we went the waiter was so awful, that we're not going back.
real expensive, good to average breakfast food available all the time but the lunch/diner food is awful and expensive, the best thing here is the breads, its a tourist type place that all the Mass. people living up here now think is cool
look up Porrtsmouth Herald articles on why the health inspector closed this place and you will never eat at he Toast again.
The wait staff told us to grab menus and pick a seat. No problem if it is a laid back place with laid back food/prices. It is not. We spent 40dollars for two adults meals, one kid meal, three drinks. They actually tried to charge us 55, but I had to argue the bill. Coffee cup was wobbly, had to ask for a new one because it spilled, seemed to annoy the waiter. The bread was great. The eggs were so-so. Home fries were over and under cooked, some raw and some blackened. We will not be back, find a dinner and you can get the same thing. They just have a large menu.
Food is amazing and well priced for the amount you get. Coffee could use some serious work and the wait staff are pretty... differant. Love the decore and pretty much everything else other than their hours. Used to be open all night for the most part but now close earlier. Sadness.
This was my favorite place when we were livin' in Maine. You've got to try their breakfast burrito sometime if you get the chance. The electic decor and staff definitely make this place a one of a kind.
