Noisy, slow, overpriced: Outback Steakhouse is as about as Australian as sauerkraut. The only Ozzie beer available is Foster's! The service is slow and the food is poor value, but - worst of all - the noise is unimaginable! The air-conditioning throbs over your head and builds to a deafening crescendo before subsiding for a few minutes. Apparently some areas are worse affected than others. Normal conversation is impossible when the noise is at its height and you will be lucky to leave without a pounding headache. The seats are too low and too deep and our table was leaning over to one side. The food was expensive and unimaginative. Our steaks - tenderloin, supposedly - were tough, dry, and tasteless and the fries were way too salty. The plates are so small that you send your fries flying when you cut your steak . We were not offered any gravy, mustard, horseradish or garnish. When I pay $17 for a steak I expect it to be good. There were no crackers with the soup and we had to ask for more salad dressing because we were given barely a teaspoonful. On the whole, this was a rotten dining experience. We could have spent less money and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at one of our favorite restaurants. We will never go back to Outback again.
Overall this is good place. This applies to Bedford NH locations. Friendly staff and good food. Unfortunately, any night you can expect a long wait, sometimes even if you use their call ahead service. No lunch service??? Food is over-priced for what you get. To me, it is just a high priced steak chain with a funny décor. Try Longhorns or Bugaboo Creek first. Better yet Silos in Merrimack.
I recently had my first and probably only visit to an Outback Steakhouse. I ordered a burger, well-done. Seems simple enough. Medium-well would have been acceptable as would slightly overcooked, but they couldn't even hit it that close, instead giving me a questionably medium burger. Waited probably 15 minutes to see the waiter again, by which time my wife was finished with her meal. Very nicely asked if I could have a well-done burger. Ten minutes later, I received my burger back (the same one), brutally charred, from one of the runners. No waiter and certainly no manager (not that I was expecting it, but might have been a nice gesture). Absolutely disgusting. Would have been far better off with the Dollar Menu and it would have saved me about $10. So in the end, I had what amounted to some very expensive free bread.
