I attended a wedding at the BVI. The woman working the front desk seemed to be less than enthused to be dealing with us. Less than friendly or accomodating when dealing with them during our stay and even before arrival. There were only 2 bartenders to accomodate the wedding and one was in training. Service was slow and sloppy. The next day the gentleman working as host at the 9am breakfast was so rude we ended up leaving. For the high prices they charge they should be a little more friendly and accomodating. Or at least friendly at all. I would never recommend this Inn to anyone especially for their wedding. The rooms were quaint yet over priced and for all the asthetic New England charm it provided, a little of the charm from the staff would have been appreciated.
We went here for a special event. Ordered hot tea to start as it was cold and rainy out. After 5 attempts, gave up, they couldn't even bring us hot water. The meal just went down from there. Appetizer was over seasoned, and the entree tasted like it was cooked on a grill that had just cooked pork.
We use to love this place, and now we will never go back. Time for new management.
I have been to the BVI restaurant several times, usually for special occasions. Of the times I have been, usually the food has been beautifully presented, carefully prepared, properly seasoned, and quite delicious. The atmosphere is subdued and tastefully upscale. On just one occasion I have had disappointing food, it was on a Tuesday night, perhaps it was the head chefs night off? I have since kept my visits on a Wednesday through Saturday basis as to avoid this problem. Usually, the wait staff is excellent, well trained and attentive. The last time I went, however we were unfortunate enough to have a young waitress who was stiff and snotty almost to the point of obnoxiousness, since it was supposed my birthday celebration meal, it put a decided damper on what would have otherwise been a very pleasant evening of fine food and wine. These ARE exceptions, but shouldn't have happened at ALL in a place as pricey as BVI. If not for these instances, my rating would have been excellent, I enjoy their wine list.
I must say I was very disapointed with the service that we had on Dec 8th 2007 we had to wait for our 8pm reservation until almost 8:45 but that was ok as they were very busy but once we were seated I exected good service but it was anything but we ordered drinks and it took forever to get them we had to ask for rolls after placing our order we never saw our server for quite some time we had to ask for refills on water when the food came one of our members didnt have a fork and we couuldnt get the attention of our server to get one we had to ask one of the other waiters for help we ordered a second round of drinks and thought we would never get them in fact I had to call the waiter over and ask what happened to them. I guess I was looking forward to a very nice evening and by the time I left I was exseperated and would never go back. I will say the food was good when it came but the service was terrible and we drove from Boston we should have stayed home
Went to the tavern last night. Pathetically small portion size for the Autumn Greens salad. My wife's ceasar had way too much bland dressing. The almond souffle was undercooked and tasted too much like almond liquor rather than almond flour/nuts.
Our waitress however was great.
I will never ever come back to this hotel ever again. Not only did they unexpectedly charge us a $350 deposit on a $200 suite, they tried to bill us an additional $250 for cleaning the room after we checked out. Basically, our room ended up costing my husband and I about $600. Let me tell you, the rooms are not that nice and the service was poor. We feel very taken advantage of by this hotel and I will also be contacting the better business bureau and hotel quality association. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!
