On a saturday night 7.30pm, the place was packed. We were excited for margaritas, sangria and some good tex-mex. Upon walking in the door, there was a very noticeable odor of pine-sol. Only a 20 minute wait so we went into the bar, where the odor was over-whelming. We left immediately! No smell of warm, spicy food... Breathing those toxic fumes would surely make you sick the next day.
I just got back from this restaurant. It is gorgeous on the inside. I was very pleased and I had high hopes! I got the Burrito Grande Especial (I think that was what it was called) for lunch.
#1 When it arrived it was covered in an orange sauce. I put that aside until I ate it. It tasted like Tomato soup! No kidding! And then when I get into the burrito is filled with Peas, Corn Potatoes, etc. And none of it had any type of kick or flavor. I remarked that it was like Shepard's pie in a tortilla. The salsa was also very weak. It reminded me of chunky ketchup. Everyone else seemed to like it, but please; do not call this Mexican food.
I don't get the 5-star reviews. There's nothing Tex-Mex about this place. It's not even Tex. Ditto on the stench of Pine-Sol. Bland refried beans. Everything is one-note same-old same-old. Then again, we've lived in California, traveled to the southwest, and have had great food. This is the Dunkin' Donuts version of real food.
The food is great - the atmosphere is awesome! My co-workers and I frequent this restaurant at least once a week. Nashua has lot to offer when it comes to culinary delights - and La Carreta is one of the best!
Love this place. Can always count on a great meal and the service is fantastic. Living in California long ago, this place brings back memories of the local family owned Mexican restaurants out there!!!! Go early though, there are always people waiting!! :)
We go to La Carreta almost every week. For awhile we kept ordering the same thing because we loved it. In the past few months we've been ordering different things and have not been disappointed with anything so far. Everything is delicious. Also, best chips and salsa north of the border! Some favorites are Pollo Ranchero, Burrito Grande and #30. Also must start with queso fundido.
