Stopped in for a quick lunch a few months back and ordered a couple of tacos at the bar. Was the only one there and the bartender was preoccupied her school work. Received two small, limp, greasy tacos--for $7.50. No lettuce or tomato---just meat and cheese. I could have made 8-10 of my own for that----loaded. Won't go back again.
Stopped in tonight to have a Mothers Day meal for my daughter and I because we both had to work on Mothers Day. Very disappointed!!!!!! Took 20 minutes to just get our drinks, 45 minutes for my granddaughter to her chicken fingers and fries, and an hour for the rest of the meals. I work very early on Friday mornings, so I had to take my meal to go so that I could get to bed on time. Asked for the manager and was told she was too busy! Too busy!!!!! I am sorry but the manager should always answer to the customer. I live around the corner and this is the first time I have eaten here in many years. I am thinking it will be many more years before I go back! I could not even enjoy my food at home because I was so upset with the service. What a lovely Mothers Day meal that was!!! NOT!!!!!
The atmosphere is very nice; rustic with a south-west flavor. Service was good, but not exceptional. It was also nice not to have the typically Too-Loud Mexican music playing. I hate it when I have to yell across the table at my dinner partners.
I ordered the Tamales dinner from the specials menu. While it was refreshing to see them served on corn husks, they were dry and somewhat bland. The re-fried beans had an odd taste. Not bad, just not how I would want (or expect) beans to taste.
My son ordered a Tostada. The tortilla wasn't fresh; by not fresh I mean from a box and not made on the restaurant premises. Other than that, he said it was fine.
All in all, it was just an OK dinner. Clearly not real Mexican food, but an average American imitation of it. The experience was a bit disappointing. New England is in serious need of some Excellent Mexican Restaurants. La Carretta remains our favorite so far.
We enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant but unfortunately it took so long (almost an hour) to get our food that we had to inhale it to make it to an appointment. We were disappointed as the food was delicious and portions generous. We went in the mid afternoon on a Saturday so the place was not packed but still the service was very slow. Perhaps they need a little more help. We would definitely go again but only when we have 2 hours to spend on a meal.
We like TF's for the good basic Mexican fare; polite, helpful waitstaff; food comes out on time; good menu selection; economical; easy to find and get to with plenty of parking. If you want more of a bar scene, the bar's small but has character; the dining area's got it's own understated charm and has enough room between tables to give you ample privacy. We recommend it to everyone we know.
