Caserta Pizzeria

Description

Caserta's is a Rhode Island tradition; returning natives head for one of their pizzas like homing pigeons. Order a medium pizza and you get what most would call a large one, and the rich, thick sauce is unique. When you get a pizza with everything on it they don't skimp; items from olives to anchovies are thickly spread all over the pizza. This little place perched on Federal Hill just above downtown Providence, is a casual eat-in restaurant but most people order their pizza and pick it up. Cash only.

This is hands down the best pizza I've ever tasted. I've lived in NYC, Los Angeles, and Boston, and I have yet to find anywhere else that comes close. Crispy crust, chewy middle, fresh quality ingredients, the fflavor of the sauce is amazing. I still drive an hour from MA to pick up this pizza. I only wish they would franchise out into other locations so I didn't have to drive so far for it. Have to admit that atmosphere and service aren't anything to brag about. I usually get it to go.

The last few times I went I wasnt happy. The pizza was cold and not cooked through. I know the crust is pre made but it seems like they just through it in the oven for a few minutes. It's freezing in the establishment, which I think is the reason that within minutes the pizza is cold. It's a bit pricey!!!!

Their pizza is absolutely still one of the best that you can get in Rhode Island. However, you have to eat it hot out of the oven, or reheated from the oven. Do not, under any circumstances, microwave their pizza. It ruins it. I have to get pizza from Caserta at least once a month because I crave it.

Still the best: My favorite pizza and spinach pies. I wish they would cook it a little more well done like they used to. But anyway, I think they are "Still the Best"

Caserta's still the best.

I don't know what that guy is saying about the pizza being different.Over 20 years ago my wife and I used to hang out at Caserta while dating. The had a franchise going and we used to visit to the one in Narragansett called 'Serta by the Sea. There was another one in Warwick too near Sandy Bottom Lane. They only franchised the name for a few years and then those places changed their names.Last year we just decided out of the blue to go to the original location in Providence. We were amazed and pleased that it was exactly the same as it was 25 years ago. Our 21 year old son wasn't around then and he agrees with us on this, Caserta has the best pizza in Rhode Island.

I grew up in Federal Hill and on Caserta's Pizza. I moved away when I was 21 and didn't go back for 17 years so, when I did go back for my first visit home I had to go toe Caserta's, my favorite Pizzeria on the hill. My mom and all my relatives warned me I'd be disappointed, it was nothing like when I was a kid. I don't know how or why it changed but it is not the same as when I was a kid growing up there in the 60s. To answer your question, I think it is famous for what it was and people just keep going back, not knowing or caring that it has changed so much. Myself, I prefer Tommy's on Chalkstone Ave. They still make a good old fashioned RI pizza.
