Place smelled like the restrooms as soon as you enter the building.Food is over-priced & average to poor for flavor. Will not bother going back.

great place to enjoy beautiful atlantic ocean. we sat on the deck watching the waves. the prices are a little high but one should expect it from white linen dining by the water. was not crazy about fish tacos: the fish was great but the fixings were boring and dry. try something else!

Was there for the Sunday brunch on 8/15/2010. Had made a reservation for 10 am which they informed me when I arrived was for 1:30?? Whatever. They were late to open, did not have enough coffee made and had several of the brunch entrees still cooking. Not impressed with the psuedo-management help on the weekend. Get staff in earlier or set up properly the night before or don't open at 10. Sat us by the stairs - of course we were punished and couldn't have a window seat because they screwed up our reservation. I'm sure the group they transposed us with at 1:30 suffered the same fate. Every other group seated while we were there -without reservations - was seated by the window. When the food was all ready it was good. Omelet station, carving station, etc. Not inexpensive by the way so it should be more than just good. Just too bad about the service- it is a gorgeous setting and could really be super if they could get their act together.

Just got back from a weekend in Narragansett. We had dinner at the Coast Guard House – and loved it. Phenomenal location (you really can’t beat it), attentive service and great food. We had a reservation (party of 6) and were seated immediately even though the place was packed. Decent wine list and good menu that offers choices for whatever you are in the mood for. Must order the stuffies—they are delish and a little different than what every other restaurant in the area offers (stuffed with chorizo which gives it a nice kick). Table ordered a variety of apps – clam chowder was a big hit. Everyone liked their main courses. I had the shellfish arrabiatta which was good. My husband liked the cod as well—an interesting way to prepare. One friend had the scallops which she said were fantastic. We were too stuffed for dessert so I don’t know what to recommend there. I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years--first as a student at URI (when the parents were in town) now as an adult with my own family. I think it’s even gotten better over this summer season. I visited in June 2008 and then this past weekend – I hear they brought some new blood in to shape things up. Well, whatever they did, it’s working! I can’t wait to go back for Sunday Brunch in October when I am back in town for URI homecoming.

If you are a nonsmoker or a smoker trying to quit, then I recommend to boycott the Coast Guard House in Narragansett, RI. On recent visits to the restaurant, I was appalled at how many patrons were smoking on the deck. The staff was not fully following the smoking ban. Smokers were smoking near entrances allowing smoke to migrate into the building. The RI health dept recommends smokers be at least 50 feet from any entrance. It is obvious the owners (Judge Caprio and Joe Formicola) don't care about the health of their non-smoking patrons or their staff. If you don't like to be near smokehand smoke, don't go to the Coast Guard House. The food is not appetizing anyways and there are better places to go for an ocean view.

My wife and I visited the Coast Guard House last night (Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007) to celebrate a birthday. We made reservations for 6:30 PM, but moved them up to 6:00 PM with no problem, and we were still able to get a wonderful table in front of the large Ocean View windows in the Main Dining Room. During dinner, the restaurant really began to fill about 6:45 PM. First off, the wait staff was terrific. Our server was super attentive and she made sure that all our courses were satisfying, which they were! We had a bottle of Santa Rita Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2004 (nice flavorful red wine with hints of berries, vanilla, and coconut) for a fair price at $26 (about $10 over retail), an appetizer of Point Judith Calamari with hot red peppers, a Warm Duck salad, and a Caesar salad, Filet Mignon, Long Island Duck, and two amazing desserts (the special Coconut Creme Pie with White Chocolate and the Chocolate Mousse). We had great food, nice conversation, and we left pleasantly full, and vowed to come back. The atmosphere was romantic with soft lighting and holiday music playing in the background. We noticed that the piano bar filled noticeably as we exited. I can't say enough about our experience last night, as the Coast Guard House made it a very special birthday celebration between the two of us. We will definetely attempt to go back during the winter, while the pace is quiet and slow and the area is not filled to extreme with tourists. We're a young couple in our early 40's who enjoyed this restaurant tremendously.
