The Red Parrot Restaurant

Description

This airy and popular three-story restaurant is as pleasant as it looks from its prominent location on Thames Street. Sip a salty, cold margarita at the bar; the varied menu will please everyone in your party with dishes ranging from Mexican fajitas to fettuccine Alfredo, fresh shrimp and boiled lobster and seafood. The energetic staff deals efficiently with large groups and business functions. Don't leave without getting a mudslide for dessert.

If you are not sure what restaurant to eat at, The Red Parrot Restaurant is a restaurant that you can not go wrong with. It is on Lower Thames Street ( across the street is the Post office. If you end up passing the segway shop and the magic studio then you have gone too far down on lower Thames Street.) The salads and sandwiches are great! It is a popular restaurant but we usually do not have to wait too long. During the summer time, you are better off parking at a parking lot and walking to the Parrot Restaurant.

The place was fabulous! I had the 1 1/5 lb lobster and it was wonderful. My husband had the stuffed sole and that was also great. The service was perfect, by Sarah. Thanks very much!

If you are looking for a local "touristy" location to have some decent food and a few drinks in a centrally located establishment - this is just as good as any of the others. The menu is huge and the price point is a little lower than average for this location. The food choices run the gamut from seafood to salads, burgers and steaks. The service was good, the atmosphere was that of your local TGIF's. I would go back

Having visited Newport several times the Red Parrot was on the top of our list. We recently spent 5 days in Newport and went to the Parrot 3 times! Always an enjoyable time. The Lobster pizza is a favorite for lunch with large and I mean large pieces of lobster. Servers were all very accommodating and pleasant. We love to sit in the front window area and watch the activity out on the streets.

Typical tourist trap. Great location, in the middle of everything. Crowded, noisy, so-so food.

Stopped in the Red Parrot to get out of the cold. They have great Coffee Drink menu. The bar service was mediocre- the bar tender never smiled, never spoke to us and looked basically bored to be there. We decided not to stay for dinner since the menu looked very average and touristy.

Friendly waitstaff and good food. Three levels which offer plenty of seating. VERY crowded during the tourist season. Try to visit during the Fall or Winter.

I have been to the red parrott twice now while working the Spring & Fall Newport Boat Show. The 1st time all of our meals were not good. Biggest complaint was that nothing was hot...all cold. Next time I had the worst meal ever...really, really bad. Will not eat there again.

As appetizers we enjoyed the pan seared scallops and raw oysters, both delicious, the oysters were very fresh and tender. For dinner I had the black and white tuna which was cooked perfectly...rare. My wife had the seafood pizza, a dish that is not my first choice but she enjoyed it. It was topped with more than enough seafood. The service was good and the atmosphere was nice.If I return to Newport I suspect that I would return.
