Craig is long gone and the menu has greatly improved. Very upscale and most delicious. The four of us had excellent service and some of the best meals on Cape. We live in Harwich and Sandwich and will continue to try and taste all of the other tempting dishes.
Our meals here were shockingly good. It was honestly the best-tasting pasta I've run across anywhere. Service was attentive but casual and we were not rushed, even when lingering to chat with friends until nearly 11pm.
I have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. It's one of the best meals I had in a long time. I have a hard time believe the poor comment made. Anyone who has worked in the restaurant industry knows you do not sit a two top at a 4 top on a Friday night. It's not rocket science. It may have been slow the moment that they came in but guarentee the restaurant would have been full by the time they left. I'm sure there's another side of the story.
I've always had great service and great meals.
I give this establishment one star because of the poor service and attitude of the staff and owner. Actually it is very sad as they have a very nice place and some wonderful food. If they could shape up on the service and attitude it would be a real winner of a place.
Back in May (2008) my husband & I went to Amari. The food was good the service was horrible. We decided not to return as there are many other restaurants on Cape Cod to try. Flash forward to last night (September 5, 2008) – after a very trying week with work, a home renovation project, first week of school etc… we were looking for a great Italian meal. I happen to think Amari has the best Chicken Parmigiana around. Since, to me, that is the ultimate comfort food we decided to give Amari a second chance. We figured it was the after Labor Day slower time on Cape Cod as well as early on a Friday evening so it would not be a problem to have an early meal at Amari.
We took the scenic ride on 6A to get to Amari. Arrived relaxed. The parking lot was pretty empty. Go inside & ask for a table for 2. The owner instructs the hostess to bring us to a particular table. The hostess is on the older side of middle age, blond, slim, attractive but with a very bitter attitude. She brings us to a 2 top table that is wedged into this tiny spot right on the edge of a stairway. It was in a raised section of about 8 tables all which were empty. We told her that we did not want to sit at the table. Her response (with all sorts of condescending, chilly attitude) was “Then why don’t you show me which table would suit you”. We suggested one of the empty 4 top tables toward the middle of the section by the window. Her response was “No way! We can not let you sit at one of those tables on a busy Friday night!” Mind you the place was empty. She then proceeded to bring us to another room full of empty tables – I believe there was one party seated in the room. She brought us to a table that was tucked away behind the entry door – it was awful! Then she added the comment of “ Does this table make you any happier?” At this point I had enough and said I was leaving. I was not, in an empty restaurant full of tables, going to be treated as a second class citizen and then pay for a meal. Forget it.
As we were walking out the owner came up to us and asked us what the problem was and what was wrong with the first table. My husband told him. Now the hostess and the owner are offering to seat us in a booth in the main portion of the restaurant closer to the open kitchen. This is all taking place in the middle of the restaurant - so much for making your customers feel comfortable and welcome. A much better location. I wanted no part of this and wanted to leave. The hostess had been rude to us repeatedly, paraded us through the restaurant to bad table after bad table and only as we are leaving they wanted to treat us decently. Forget it!
My husband told the owner that this was not the first time we had a similar experience, we were leaving, and it was unfortunate because the food was good at his restaurant. The owners response (in the middle of his restaurant with a server standing there, the hostess standing there and tables seated nearby) “You can’t please everyone!” Frankly, I agree but when you start things off in a rude, adversarial, condescending manner I think it is best to take my restaurant dollars and bring them to a place that is appreciative and wants the business.
Sad, in my opinion, because the food is good. Maybe you will get lucky and be treated well. I have now had more than one bad experience and will not return
THE BEST on Cape Cod! Excellent service, excellent food@ reasonable prices with more than generous portions. Great wine list and a great bar to wait @ for your table. I highly recommend this restaurant!
