Black-Eyed Susan's

Description

This cozy, high-energy, open-kitchen restaurant seats only 32 patrons. You can either sit by the grill and watch, as your meal is prepared or try to get a reservation for a table at this often packed restaurant. The best way to get a reservation is in person. The ethnically inspired, international dinner menu changes every two to three weeks, but Caesar salad, angel hair pasta and linguine with clams are always available. The breakfast menu includes eggs and omelets, pancakes and sourdough French toast with orange Jack Daniels butter and pecans. Outside dining is available. Please note that credit cards are not accepted.

I have to say I was so looking forward to eating breakfast here as it came highly recommended from some close friends. But the service was horrendous. After being seated, it took 45 minutes for them to bring out our breakfast, and that was after already waiting 30 minutes to be seated. Don't get me wrong - the food was excellent. I guess my advice is - don't be hungry when you go there.

We visit Nantucket at least twice a year and one of the highlights is eating at Black-eyed Susans. The food is seasonal and fresh. Sit at the counter for a real treat in food prep. We eat there as often as we can during the trips. Friendly service and delicious food. What more could one ask for on an island fit for a picture book.

Another great meal at B E S
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/8/06
The place buzzes with a great atmosphere of friendly people who are out to enjoy themselves. The food is fresh and superbly cooked and presented. The waiting to sign up for a sitting is fun in itself, chatting to those waiting on the bench gets everyone in the mood. Our tactic is to leave our wives sitting to place our names on the 7.30 sitting, get there for around 5.30 in the high season, and whilst they are doing that wander round to the bar at The Brotherhood of Thieves for some cocktails. A great evening for all from start to finish.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/22/05
the food is great breakfast and dinner, staff is wonderful, casual, creative enviornment, and you get to watch the food prepaired, i wish there was more room at the table, but that is my only complaint

Brad & Joy
By Brad, 8/7/04
The joy is worth the wait...plan on a strategy to obtain great seating; arrive at 5:30 -- put name in and enjoy a 40min walk around nantucket corridors....I prefer to sit at the counter for overall enjoyment.

If soft-shell's are in season they produce the best dishes on nantucket. Love the BYOB....freshest food...different style than typical 3 or 4-star type of Nantucket dining.

A must go! Casual atmosphere with 4-star experience.
