Black-Eyed Susan's

Description

This cozy, high-energy, open-kitchen restaurant seats only 32 patrons. You can either sit by the grill and watch, as your meal is prepared or try to get a reservation for a table at this often packed restaurant. The best way to get a reservation is in person. The ethnically inspired, international dinner menu changes every two to three weeks, but Caesar salad, angel hair pasta and linguine with clams are always available. The breakfast menu includes eggs and omelets, pancakes and sourdough French toast with orange Jack Daniels butter and pecans. Outside dining is available.

i live on nantucket and this is my favorite restaurant....but you have to know "the rules". reservations are taken for the 6:00 seating only. it is BYOB. and yes, bread is a la carte, not served. dinners are fabulous.... original, fresh, inspired and always wonderful. although sometime ignored a tiny bit when the restaurant is filled to capacity (something i don't mind), i have always had excellent service. there are so many great items on the menu that i will eat there over and over again during the summer. it is casual, noisy, fun and i can always count on a great meal. go early, try two staples that are always offered: tuna tartare (not on the menu but always available as an appetizer). it is one of the best things i have ever eaten, and the caesar's salad. they offer only two desserts, and the cinnamon tortilla with slightly burned edges and lemon sorbet will transport you to another place. i cannot imagine anyone not being thrilled with black eyed susans.

Great for breakfast.

Hugely popular restaurant for breakfast. Be prepared to wait. The food was excellent (much like your average breakfast diner), but I felt very cramped in the small space.

Zero atmosphere unless you're a diner freak, but the breakfast is worth standing in line for. Sit at the counter to watch the short-order show or on the back patio with the filtered morning light.

It is worth waiting in line! The best brunch on the island - just remember to bring your own bottle of champagne (and a couple extra bucks for the uncorking fee) for the mimosas!

It's not about the decor, it's the food, silly! Crowds hanging outside wait their turn to get into this tiny, tasty spot. Great for breakfast, too.

Best breakfast on the Island. Sit at the bar and watch every plate come out making you salivate as you wait. There is usually a line, but doesn't that say something about the food? Great scrambles, huevos rancharos, and delightful frechtoast.... I am getting hungry just thinking about it.

We were not that impressed with this restaurant. We thought the cost was extreme for the decor.
