I went to the Mockingbird recently for Bacherlorette's Night-out Dinner with a group of ten women. Although our server was quick and very polite she seemed nervous the whole night. I have heard that the owner and management are not nice people to work for. I noticed that the staff I could see around me all seemed unhappy and tense. When we first arrived we got drinks at the bar while waiting, the bartender had absolutely no personality and didn't even attempt to be polite. However, I must say that the apprtizers and dinners, and desserts were absolutely delicious!! it's too bad I couldnt get that quality food at a place with a nice and friendly atmosphere!
It is unfortunate that this newly renovated and very attractive space be so unwelcoming. After several attempts, The Mockingbird is no longer on my list of places to go. They are pretty unfriendly if dining with children and for a martini bar, they don't make you feel likje hanging out. On a recent visit on a very slow Wednesday night, a group of 5 guys came in for dinner. It was close to closing time (9:00 ) and when they asked if the restaurant was still serving they were told to make it quick. The guys proceeded to order drinks, appetizers and dinners despite teh warm welcome they did not get. Had that been said to me I would have left. The service or lack there of is a constant. It was a place that we frequented weekly until it got to the point where we decided we would give our business to someone who appreciated it. If you can get past the horrible service, the food and drinks are great.
I was there last Saturday. It was my first time and after the reviews and friends telling me what a great place it was I couldn't wait to try it out. I was so very disappointed. I have to say the service was great, the design and decor of the restaurant is very nice. The food is mediocre at it's best and THEY HAVE COCKROACHES! Two were climbing the walls when we were eating!!! I couldn't believe it. I had to leave. I'm sorry I know that most restuarants have cockroaches but not crawling up the wall next to me in the dining room! I'll never be back it's a shame.
We live near by and eat out a lot so when the Mockingbird first opened we were looking forward to having another choice so close to home. We have been there 5 times (my wife a few more with the girls) and 4 out of 5 times the experience was less than stellar. On our first trip it was quite evident they don’t like families. For the record my kids were 12 & 15 at the time. Not exactly screaming babies. They definitely don’t make you feel welcome and from reading some of the other posts I see we are not alone here. I also noticed most of the people raving about this restaurant (in the posts) are couples. If those are the only patrons the Mockingbird want to treat well, then good luck with that business model long term.
The food has been hit it or miss. Twice I have had a good meal but 3 times the orders were either not prepared correctly or were just not that good. As stated above the one thing you can definitely count on is the mediocre service. The bar is very CLINKY. They have their pet costumers and when you’re not one of them you’ll know it. The wife and I stopped in for an late evening cocktail a few months back, and they wouldn’t let us sit at one of the tall bar tables even though the bar was full. They said it was for patrons who were dining. It was about 9:45 and if you live here in EB you know most of the town is dark by now.
All I can say is it’s a shame because we really could use a few more decent restaurants in the area.
Lastly, I mentioned the wife going there with the girls. Well that doesn’t happen anymore because of the service. Two of the ladies are even in the restaurant business and they can’t believe how they treat people.
I hate giving a bad review (especially to a local EB business) but felt if you have not been there yet, you should be forewarned.
Oh Yeah, One Really Good Thing! The new building looks awesome! Quite an improvement from the old Chinese restaurant that was there.
everytime we go it s always amazing... not a long wait and even if there is the Martini s are soo good i never seem to care..
my husband and I go alot and are not unhappy
Frank and his crew are one great crew!!
thanks for always hooking us up!!
Expensive, mediocre and poor service. We just had a very unpleasant experience at Mockingbird. We had previously enjoyed the restaurant on several occasions. I think they have fallen down a great deal since their expansion into a ballroom facility expanding their business to wedding receptions. It s a pity as this was a very nice restaurant. We will not return as we have other restaurants that are friendlier, more varied in their menu offerings and provide far greater value. I fear that Mockingbird has raised their prices and lowered their value in order to cover their recent expansion. There are other, better choices in the area.
Went with 6 friends Saturday night. Had reservations for 7pm. By 7:30 they were out of most of the specials. Finally got served dinner around 9pm....haddock was so over cooked tasted like cardboard....sent it back, had no other appetizing options to choose from menu, went without. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING.
