Anthony's Pier 4
The interior of this restaurant is as dated as the photos of proprietor Anthony Athanas with celebrities like Bob Hope and Dom DeLouise that hang on the walls. But there is no better place in Boston to enjoy fresh seafood in the summertime than on Anthony's patio, which has a view of Boston's inner harbor and skyline. If you like shellfish, order the clambake special, which gives you shrimp, steamed clams, mussels and lobster. This restaurant also prides itself on its steaks and wine list.
We went to Anthony's Pier 4 for our wedding aniversary and I hate to say had THE WORST experience I have ever had in Boston. The service was below expectations, not being able to remember our drink orders and our food choices. It overall took the waiter 3 and 1/2 hours to serve a table ot 4. We expected a lot from the food, jidging from the reviews and were SO dissapointed, the lobster was stale, the fish tasteless tha bread 3 days old and the butter hard rock.
We expected so much, especially for the prices charged and in the end got nothing close to what the reviews say.We would rather have gone to Legal Sea Foods, a 1000 times better.
Took my girlfriend there for Valentine's Day and was treated like royalty. Made reservations at Opentable.com and had a great table by the window overlooking the harbor. Valet service, coat check, very friendly and professional staff. Seated almost immediately and the food was excellent (crabmeat platter for appetizer, complimentary bread, salads, NY Steak and Rack of Lamb). Wine list is exceptional and the desert was delicious and very creative. (Candied rose petal with champagne sorbet on a lemon tart -- yum!). I would definitely recommend this place for a romantic dinner or special occassion. A little pricey, but definitely worth it!
our waiter and assistants were very pleasant, attentive, and efficient, the entrees all very good; the popovers were delicious; the seating next to a window overlooking the harbor and airport added to the experience
I went to Pier 4 tonight with the idea of making it a special night out for my family. It was bad! Service was terrible; waitress complained to us about other employees; food was cold. No rolls until we asked for them! Cost was high. We will NOT go back again.
This place is amongst the top and best known restaurants in Boston. Located right on the waterfront and overlooking the harbor, it features one of the most breath-taking views of the city. The service was impeccable; reminiscent of days gone by. the overall ambiance nothing but charming. Introductory mushrooms were superb; the hot popovers some of the best I've ever eaten. Stop! Don't go any further. The food was some of the worst - dollar for dollar - I have ever eaten.
The filet mignon, although adequate in size, was overcooked and very dry. The crab cakes were non-descript. The tuna steak was as dry as the steak and had obviously been flipped on the gril about three times too many. The shrimp scampi was tasteless and tough. The desserts were right out of some grocery story box but topped by a dollop of vanilla ice cream for effect. I was so dis-appointed.
Such a lovely setting, such nice service, such a pricy menu, such disappointing food. Never again.
