Neighborhood Restaurant & Bakery
We've been in business since 1983. From Portugal to New Jersey and now to Boston. The family's recipes still live on here at the Neighborhood Restaurant & Bakery, for everything; home made jelly, syrups, sweetbreads (white +wheat) wines, soups, cream of wheat and sauces. My brother Mario Borges started it but passed away 7 years ago and I promised that I would do my best to keep the restaurant going. My dad is still here at 87, my nephew, my niece, my waitress's have been here since they were 16 now there 28! My breakfast cook has been here for over 10 years now.
The demand for this place definitely exceeds its capacity, and it's popularity is well-deserved. The food is simply terrific. Portions are good, entrees are varied, and the real kicker are the fresh baked pastries, breads and muffins that they bring to your table as a starter - these are DIVINE. Among them, I highly recommend the coffee cake. It's so soft and moist and easily among the best I've ever had. Prices are on the cheap side, so you can afford to indulge early and often. On cold busy days, they even let you wait downstairs, next to the kitchen, and you can help yourself to spiced hot chocolate to keep warm. I generally like the ambiance too, it's like somebody cleared out an old living room and put in tables. My only complaint is that the place is really cramped, and you may wind up waiting a bit for a table. One other tip - be sure you write down the address for your first visit, it's an easy place to miss as it's a little bit off the beaten p
