S & S Restaurant
S&S Restaurant has been around since 1919 and is a Sunday brunch favorite. Families, couples and hung-over college students flock here for the all-day breakfast and deli food. The lox will cure what ails you. This restaurant is also a very popular caterer, with hot meals, sandwiches and breakfast foods. The restaurant also offers a full service bar.
I went there expecting bad service. wow i was suprised by the skill and quality of the staff they keep. there are the ocassional few that really give it a bad name. but overall the place is a well oiled maachine. pay attention to the amount of people served and the amount of time they are taken care in. The lox platter was impecable. there arent any places like this in nyc anymore. they closed.
Well, the menu has some good stuff on it, but the service...

I agree with the previous reviewer about the service. Over the years, the S&S has expanded into neighboring storefronts along the block, and it's not clear their kitchen, their waitstaff, or their work-flow has expanded correspondingly. Maybe the kitchen is still too small. That's my kindest interpretation. They're always busy evenings and brunch, so the indifferent service hasn't hurt them in the balance sheet I guess. On the plus side, it's an excuse to visit the entertaining but overlooked Inman Square, and where else can you get pastrami on the far side of the Charles River? Don't take your NYC friends -- they won't be impressed.
The service was slow and the waitress forgot things we asked for more than once. The place wasn't even overly busy, to there was no excuse for the bad service. The food was fine, but nothing to go out of your way for. Way overhyped and overpriced for what you get.
